From a-z the plan was a mess, earlier the Paduia incident happened, the BSF constructed illegal embankments to Meghalaya from the enclave. The local BDR officer took exception to this violation, surrounded the BSF troops there and broke the embankment.
Now remember both the BDR and BSF were aware of this earlier incident, the BSF decided to retaliate and chose Borobari to do the same, knowing the outpost would be lightly manned and wrongly assumed that the occupants would be half asleep. that they would surrender seeing the overwhelming force.
The BSF moved across open paddy fields, carrying heavy weapons which slowed them down, and as the light came up they got spotted, this plan to attack head on over open ground, and through muddy paddy fields gave the BDR to take position.
And the rest is history.
