FC arrest 18 terror-financiers, recover foreign currencies
PESHAWAR – Under the national action plan, the Frontier Corps on Saturday apprehended 18 financiers of terrorists and recovered foreign currency and gold.
According to details, the Frontier Corps conducted an operation on a tip off and arrested 18 financiers and supporters of terrorists from Khyber Agency. At least three kilogrammes of stolen gold, 1,500 grammes of silver and foreign currencies – including dollars, riyals and dirhams - were also recovered from the culprits.
An official – on the condition of anonymity - said that the foreign currencies were valued at around Rs 65 million, adding that the culprits were financing all the terror activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and this northern region. The detainees were transferred to an undisclosed location for investigation.
In a separate development, at least two suspected terrorists were apprehended and security officers recovered huge cache of weapons during raid in Dera Ismail Khan on Saturday.
Security has been beefed up in all corners of the country in the holy month of Muharram, with search operations and raids being conducted in numerous cities to ensure that the days pass off without any mishap.
According to details, two armed motorcyclists fled the scene when police officers tried to stop them at a checkpost near CBRC Canal’s bridge in Dera Ismail Khan.
Security officers chased the motorcyclists and nabbed them from a small village. The detainees were shifted to some undisclosed place for further interrogation. The police also conducted a raid at a house where they confiscated four hand grenades, two ALG guns and two-metre long silicon wires.
