Why Turkey develop TFX while buy F35? I think they are quite ambitious.
Yes , their strategy is to replaces f16s by f35s and make tfx for air superiority which will also replace other f16s.....i want same strategy by pakistan to replace f16s by indigenous project and making new squadrons and induct j31 to counter rafale threat...this will also serve as stopgap till 2030 till when paf will start producing its own 5++ gen jet...<<<<according to AIR CHIEF.
Meanwhile F16 will start retiring by 2030 especially the 12 F16A/B ADF units which never got MLU

F-35 replaces TuAF F-4's and also fulfill Aircraft Carrier requirements. TFX gives F-16 replacement and also local aircraft manufacturing.

Who is not ambitious?

No F-16's will be replaced by F-35's.

100 F-35's are ordered to replace F-4's.

@cabatli_53 what is the timeline for the induction of F-35's and possible retirement dates for F-16's of the TuAF.

Turkey is making huge part of the F-35 especially subsystems at home. In fact, the F-35 engines will be made in Turkey as well. The composite materials of the F-35 as well. There are multiple Turkish firms involved in the F-35 program. This will help in the TFX program.

Pakistan should gain a lot by a) Having the Turkish source the subsystems and weapons like SOM-J for the FC-31 like they did with the Agosta-90B and B) committing to the TFX in the long run. Luckily for Pakistan, if it plays its cards right, it has a real shot at two distinct 5th generation stealth fighters thanks to China and Turkey. The problem is getting through 2017- ~2025. There's an urgent need for a stopgap credible fighter that can take the pressure off the F-16s.

Very true Turkey being a NATO member is also partnerr of the F-35 hence these systems are being developed along with the upgrades for F-16 like new radar etc.

However TFX is a complete 5th generation aircraft being designed for European and Arab Markets, offering western technology without threats of santions. As the powerplant of F-35 is codeveloped by GE a tranfer of technology along with other GE engines has being signed for licenced production for local and foreign customers.

PAF has a requirement to replace almost 300-400 aircraft till 2020 which does not include F-16's. Most likely JF-17 orders would be added from the present 250 to 300-350 aircraft. As we know that PAC can not full fill this due to the limited time PAF is considering other options.Aircraft that are available are 4.5 or 4.5+ where as J-31 is a 5 th gen fighter. J-31 would be procured as a replacement fighter for the F-7PG hence some where around 2020-2022 not as a stop gap. No more than 100-150 aircraft.

As a stopgap PAF would like to have F-16's A/B and/or C/D and MLU them. As F-35's are being delivered more and more F-16's are available in the market. Transfer of these aircraft would only require President's signature.

The timing of PAF induct stealthy fighters depends on when IAF can get FGFA from Russia.

4th gen fighter nearly stands no chance against 5th gen fighter in real combat.

Recently at DingXin air combat excercise , J20 scores 10:0 with J10b. Even the AWACS was shot down.

I think rafael has already put pressure on paf ... j10 and f16 are not an answer to rafael ... su35 is still doubtful ... eurofighter is too expensive ... if fc31 can match timming of rafael induction than paf should go for it ...

how many A2A missile J-20 can carry and also what do you think when will pakistan induct J-31 and how many??
J20 can carry 4 PL15 and 2 PL10E. As the schedule of J31 induction, no one can answer. As to numbers, no less than 4 squadrons according to size of PAF.

8, 6 BVRAAM in main bays and 2 short range air to air missiles in side bays and your quoted pictures is not confirmed, whether this J-31 weapon bays pictures or something else

Don't isolate yourself.
It is not isolation
Fc31 use a lot of j20 technology, in case of the revelation of technology, fc31 still didn't get a export license.
How do you think there will be any collaboration in the near future, especially like the country turkey?what they can do,except bragging
For cooperation Pakistan is a exception, for countries like turkey, never possibile

Sexiness overload. :smitten:

No way in hell. It will be ready by 2020. We're talking about Chinese here, not uncle sam.

Yes.
Yeah, in Chinese way, the faster you make the better it is... Right?

No. PAF would like to induct 5th gen aircraft before India.
Unfortunately nothing is available.
It was rumored that the J-31 would be available by 2019. If this is reality then PAF would induct these over 4.5 -4.5++ fighters.

Well it all depends on what tactics have been used. Remember USAF F-22's scored well in the early days but later on it was hunted many times. This was because tactics evolved later on on how to shoot it down.

The issue is how many Rafales would be procured and how many would be fielded on Pakistan's borders. It is most likely that PAF would be against SU-35, and Mirage 2000 of IAF. where as IN would send in Mig 29's. Jaguars would also be used in limited numbers.

To counter these threats net centric approach is the only viable option, something the PAF has mastered.
