Fazl compares Fata situation with Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: Even as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is busy highlighting the plight of the Kashmiri people at the international level, key government ally Maulana Fazlur Rehman surprised the National Assembly on Thursday when he said that the government was meting out similar treatment to its own people, living in the tribal areas.

On the second day of discussion on the findings and recommendations of the Committee on Fata Reforms, the chief of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) said: “I don’t see any difference between the people of India-occupied Kashmir and our tribal areas as far as the curbing of their rights is concerned.”

For some reason, he said, the suffering of the people of Fata was not being highlighted as compared to the media coverage of the Kashmir issue.

He did not stop there. Criticising the ongoing military operation in Fata, he said it seemed as if the action actually targeted peaceful tribesmen rather than the Taliban, since the latter continued to rule the roost with a monthly income of Rs1.5 billion, which they extorted from government agencies and other coercive measures.

Mr Rehman claimed that every second shopkeeper in Peshawar was receiving threatening messages from extremists, warning of dire consequences if they failed to pay ‘protection money’.

In the cleric’s words, the kind of disgrace and humiliation that had been meted out to the people of Fata as a result of the ongoing military operation was unrivalled in recent history.

“First, they were dislocated in the name of the country’s greater national security; now their identities are being questioned and they are being forced to cross the Durand Line,” said the JUI-F leader who has the distinction of being part of the last three successive governments, under Gen Pervez Musharraf, Asif Zardari and now Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Adopting an acerbic tone against the government of which he has been an integral part from day one, Fazlur Rehman drew parallels between the Line of Control (LoC) and the Durand Line, saying: “The two lines are undefined international borders; just as we have claims across the LoC, those living on the other side of the Durand Line have their own views. This is why the Fata region needs careful handling.”

He claimed that the committee’s report on Fata reforms was far removed from ground realities and termed it a mere “show-piece” and wordy account. “Reports prepared sitting inside the Governor House had no weight,” he said.

Disapproving its findings and recommendations, Mr Rehman asked how people sitting in Islamabad could recommend the merging of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Urging both the federal and KP governments not to impose their own solutions on the tribal region, the JUI-F chief called for allowing the people of Fata to decide their future.

Although he proposed a referendum for the people of Fata to decide their future, he was of the view that a separate province could better serve their rights within the federation.

It was surprising to see Fazlur Rehman — who is also chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir — ignoring the rising tensions between India and Pakistan in his speech.

Towards the end of his remarks, the burly JUI-F leader said he had predicted 15 years ago that India would encircle Pakistan through Afghanistan, adding that Pakistan could only counter India by fostering friendly ties with neighbouring countries.

Throughout the JUI-F chief’s speech, PkMAP leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai kept on thumping his desk and even verbally endorsed the former’s point of view. However, many on the treasury benches curled up in their seats, disapproving of Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s assertions.

But it took Ghalib Khan, a PML-N MNA from Fata, to hit back at the JUI-F leader. Without naming him, the tribal lawmaker said that successive governments had ignored tribesmen and those in power only sought to benefit themselves and their parties.

Mr Khan wondered why and on whose behest the JUI-F leader spoke about controversial issues such as the Durand Line and requested the latter not to sabotage the government’s ongoing efforts for the betterment of Fata’s.

Alright before Indians come here and start freedom fighter bullshit. Let me inform them in a summary.

Fazlu rehman has always had a soft corner for terrorists and even at his height he supported various groups like TTP. The name diesel he got is due to the massive corruption in diesel he committed. He was against army operations in FATA which has brought great relative peace in pakistan as well as FATA.

The thing is that he wants FATA to be a separate province which is not going to happen. His opposition are the politicians, students and intelligentsia of FATA who want merger with kpk whilst the elder don't want merger but also don't want provincial statusnbyt only special status like GB.

As you can see that a FATA lawmaker shot him down.

Fazlu is also extremely anti PTI as he seems his parties downfall in ptis rise especially with pti making kpk their base province.

Considered a joke of a politician in pakistan, fazlu holds little power and believe me the govt only Has to offer him some portfolio or security and he will be licking their shoes. Believe me we know our politics and politicians better than anyone else.

.
Paisa phenk tamasha dekh. When Nawaz Shareef government is about to roll, Moulana is asking for some rishwat to fill his hell. You will also see Achakzai uttering some similar bull$hit.

(throw money towards dancers and let the show begin)

The most funny thing is that he is head of Kashmir committee and he is party has no interest in Kashmir issues yet he is the chief of that, here come my dozen time repeating point the " selective justice " which harmed us more than else.

NEVER :D

Karachi? o_O I'm from Karachi, most of my family lives in Karachi and believe me when I tell you that we love Pakistan and will go to the border to kick bharti *** if needed.

Speak to people from Karachi to know the truth, not the fairy tales they tell in Indian newspapers.

No point in quoting. People believe what they wish to believe and in our eastern neighbors, critical thinking about their media is heavily absent.

We have threads here about development in FATA as well political reforms in FATA. a week ago the first semester of fata university started which is the first university over there in history thanks to development brought by the army. 22 million EUR in a give year period will be invested by EU, paid by Germany, for FATA development while the govt has a ten year plan for 96 billion rupees for fata development. Asni highlighted at the top the issues such C grade politicians have and the issues of reforms of FATA. Of course they will ignore the statement of ghalib khan who shot down fazlu and ghalib is from fata.

Karachites are loyal people who contribute greatly to the economy of pakistan. I disagree with their political choice of party just as I disagree with the Sindhi's choice of political party but a disagreement is not separatism. Only fools believe karachi is vying for separatism.

The people of GB are extremely loyal despite not being allotted rights and representation in the national assembly on the equal footing with other provinces. They believed in pakistan before and they still do now and their CM is taking active steps in promoting development and cultural integration as well improving GB.

Baluchistan has been discussed time from time again. The movement is dead and the terrorists are completely defeated. The people of Baluchistan seek only one thing which is development and that is being provided by the provincial govt as well as FC although more needs to be done and should be done, the Baluchis are not interested in separatism. I could go into further and further details as I have on many occasions on this forum.

FATA should have been made another province by now or may be merged in KP, whatever the people decide. But there has to be some solution for its problems. That region needs civilian structure and also rehabilitation of its people.

I dunno why no one seems to care at the government level, you cannot leave it like that. It has been a messy place for a long time!

.
Hmm.. Interesting times. Few days back, a leader from FATA was calling Names to Zar-b-Azb.. And now this.

Off topic : In coming few days, Great grand daughter of Bacha Khan, will protest for "rights of Pushtuns in KP/FATA" in Kolkata/Delhi.

Actually the govt does care. I have been posting news on the FATA political reforms thread in the social and current events section..

Here is how its been going in a summary.

The govt has prepared a team to fact find what does FATA want. A merger, special status or separate province. They found out that the most realistic option for FATA is a merger with KPK.

Now let's look at the three options.

First is merger with kpk.

The intelligentsia of kpk has heavily supported the idea with teachers and students all going on streets to support this in FATA. The politicians of FATA especially ANP and PTI are trying to get a merger and the merger seems to be the most popular choice. The CM of kpk and the politician are also pressuring the govt on a merger. It seems that merger is the most realistic option and govt has decided that FATA will be merged with KPK in a ten year period. Local body elections will happen in FATA in 2017. The merger gains ground due to the similarity FATA shares with kpk and some districts of FATA are better connected and economically dependent on Peshawar than on each other. In fact some are detached from the other.

The second popular option is

Special status.

Now this option was in the race but did not gain support until the tribal elders stood up. The support is minimal Still bit the tribal elders want a special status on the likes of GB. This means that FATA will be in a limbo still. For GB one can argue the Kashmir issue ( although a pathetic excuse) but there is no such issue with FATA so placing it in a limbo like that makes absolutely no sense. However if kpk is merged then that means the writ of high court and kpk assembly comes over there which leaves the tribal elders weak and majority of their power snatched. Such a thing is being dealt with. The elders want minimal reforms and cite that FATA customs which have lasted hundred of years of elder as well as other must be retained and must not be changed and bring state writ in the form of a merger will do that. They also cite that kpk is not financially viable to handle FATA.

The province option.

The province option is the least popular and is pandered by this clown alone who wants to make it so that he can create a base area for politics. Province stands the most difficult option since I mentioned that some districts are closely linked to Peshawar than with each other and simply the govt does not have funds to accommodate the financial stress of a new province that will require new courts, new assembly, new budget policies, state policies. This fact is noticed by intelligentsia of FATA who support a merger.

One thing is certain that the black law of FCR is getting removed.

The govt currently plans to mainstream and merge FATA with kpk in a period of ten years however the kpk govt is putting pressure along with FATA politicians to merge within a shorter time.

The development happening in FATA is another topic and will be touched some other time.

If you wish to do more research then there are various posts and threads on such topic available on this forum.

GB is more or less another province and that could be officially acknowledged, it will be given that status in due time, any time sooner may be. The Kashmir thing has escalated, let's see if we can get any results. As for FATA, if its a merger then the sooner the better that would give us a relief too and the people will benefit!

GB is not more but a lot less than a province. Yes the special status allotted in 2010 did give it provincial powers but GB remains largely unrecognized in our constitution as well as does not have representation on the senate and national assembly like other provinces do which greatly curtails GBs presence at federal level. There are many political reforms that are required in pakistan and need to be addressed and addressed duly. Let's hope this gets solved.

As for FATA a merger is inevitable at this point unless something drastic happens but ten years is a lot of time which is the reason why provincial govt of kpl wants a merger soon.

Ten years is a lot of time, it should be sooner than that like may be a five year plan.

In coming few days, Great grand daughter of Bacha Khan, will protest for "rights of Pushtuns in KP/FATA" in Kolkata/Delhi.

Do you know Nasim Wali khan ?? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasim_Wali_Khan

She is the wife of Khan abdul wali khan and the Step mother of Asfandyar wali khan (current president of ANP). and time to time she criticize his own step son for "selling" Pakhtoon to the enemies of Pakistan, and criticize him for anti-Pakistan mindset.

And you know what , Search about a district name "mardan" . you will find the remains of ANP there.

.
The biggest problem which we are facing is, traitors who are sitting on key positions.
