Government today termed the arrest of suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist Fasih Mohammad as a "very important catch", saying Saudi Arabia fully cooperated in his deportation to India.

"It was a very important catch. He was deported by Saudi Arabia," Union Home Secretary R K Singh told reporters here.

Giving the first official reaction after Fasih's arrest by Delhi Police at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, the Home Secretary said India had submitted "material evidence" against Fasih to Saudi Arabia to press its demand for deportation for his involvement in various terrorists acts in the country.

"He (Fasih) was deported after he had served a sentence there. Saudi Arabia cooperated with us," he said.

Singh said Indian officials were coordinating with Saudi Arabia for quite some time by providing documents to prove his Indian citizenship.

"Our officers were in touch with Saudi Arabia. That is how it happened," he said.

India had sought his deportation and also got an Interpol Red Corner notice issued against him.

I think there is some technicality in the terms extradition and deportation. Some times the term deportation is also used in lieu of extradition. Like -

Canada seeks terror-related deportation order for Sri Lankan refugee allegedly linked to Tamil Tigers | Canada | News | National Post

Canadian immigration officials are trying to deport an alleged member of the World Tamil Movement, which the RCMP has labeled a “front organization” for Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tigers rebels.

The Canada Border Services Agency said it had asked the Immigration and Refugee Board to issue a terrorism-related deportation order against the Sri Lankan refugee, who has lived in Canada for the past 15 years.

Did Pakistan claim him too as Pakistani ? like abu Jundal ?

Sure, IM operative would be living in Saudi Arabia on non-Indian passport...most possibly a pakistani...aka Abu Jundal.
Still if he is 'DEPORTED' to India......not pakistan or other country of which he might be holding the passport speaks volumes about the significance of this catch.. Bhatkal brothers ..next..

KSA trying to strengthen its relations with India with the best thing to offer, the terrorists that India needs to curb major security risks to our nation.

What will be worthy to note is how much it will help our security and intelligence agencies ? We need to look at pay off.

I doubt KSA tries anything with India. KSA just does not want scum like Osama in its land so it kicked him out. India need KSA not the other way around.

PERIOD !!

good that Saudi authorities repatriated the indian terrorist.....why should they be in Saudi when Saudi itself is worried about internal jihadist threats

btw, Saudi's internal intel agency is not called "arabian intelligence" -- locally they refer to it as the Mukhabarat but i think internationally they just call it the Intelligence Directorate.

Right. Don't be a fool India is going to be one of the most powerful nations on earth within our lifetimes, tell me- who doesn't need a trend like this? Why would India needs Saud more than Saud needs India? It is common sense but that is in short supply on this thread for some reason.

nope; sorry, incorrect. Pakistan never even claimed the guy. He's an indian citizen and Pakistan had nothing to do with him. Though in line with the nature of confused indians (who are loathe to acknowledge that there are plenty of homegrown terror outfits within their country) try to pin the blame on Pakistan and then even go so far as to claim that an arrest of an indian terrorist in Saudi Arabia is analogous to "Pakistan becoming isolated" or Pakistan being "sold out" by allies -- which is absurd and childish only.

I don't even believe the whole myth about the so-called "Karachi control room"; the indians cant even muster the courage or ability to share any evidence -- either with us, or even with the press! 4 years later, they're still butt-hurt b/c a few lightly armed kids were able to pull off one of the most audacious attacks on an entire city (the financial capital at that)
