How exactly??

They were used for ground support / bomber plus they were also the main platform for carrying nukes at that time. So when they were in active status they were very useful all PAF aircraft are multirole. Also why do you think we have some stored away its for a rainy day they will again be used for the purposes as mentioned above.

Nos. 16 and 26 squadron A-5's and FT-6's gathering dust in Peshawar.
i thought they were all retired or replaced by JF17 ?
around 9, 10 years ago you could still see them in Peshawar airport with intake covers installed, but I suppose they've been completely phased out as the the JF-17 has matured as credible ground attack platform

On This Day - 56 Years Ago, The Nanchang Q-5/A-5 “Fantan”, the Chinese attack/interdiction aircraft made its maiden flight (June 4, 1965). Around 1,000 Fantans were produced and were widely exported to regional countries, including Pakistan and Bangladesh.
