Fake Projection of a False Leader
A project designed to create a fake perception about the inevitability of Imran Khan making it as Prime Minister to justify engineered Election Day results is being implemented at breath neck speed. Most media houses for their own business interests are playing ball by only bringing TV commentators who ‘Toe the Line’ on screen and denying adequate media coverage to opponents of Imran Khan (Killing of Talat Hussein story just one example). Independent opinion has literally been eliminated from TV screens until after the elections are over. Despite the media gerrymandering, PTI leadership very close to Imran Khan in private conversations last night expressed their serious concern that recent political turn of events continues to erode PTI support base in Punjab at an alarming pace. Except for pockets of support in KPK, they are convinced that Punjab is a lost cause. Besides the ‘Jeep Factor,’ the announcement by PPP that Asif Ali Zardari would be their candidate for the Prime Minister has sent shivers down the spine of PTI leadership. They fear that once a fractured National Assembly is elected, PPP would only settle for a compromise candidate if PTI also settles for one – Or minus one one formula. As Election Day nears, the widening gap between reality and the false perception being created by fake TV commentators and anchors proportionally increases the risk of ballot day stuffing. Comparisons between the 1970 and 2018 elections may be far-fetched. The only similarity between the two elections may just be that the crisis before balloting only got worse after Election Day.
