Fake Drugs in the USA !

wtf? I thought some of these drugs were FDA approved. Thanks India. You can take your crap back and give it to the your corrupt citizens.

Those are not fake drugs, as in they won't kill you. They are just generic brands, which violate the patent rights. Still a crime, but it won't kill ya.

First and foremost, People they don't even know that the FBI itself is responsible for the whole Fiasco, I am sure FBI must have asked these people to Bring in the Products by such a Lot. Why did the US Customs let these products come inside the US in the first place and what was the role of the so called "Undercover Agent"? No One Knows, I am sure FBI allured these Innocent people to do these stuff, I can't believe that they have Mentioned that the products were shipped from India, If it was some Illegal then why would someone mentioned his true Name on it???? People please think about it? The reason why i am writing in favor of these people because even one of my cousin was framed into the same charges. and he was from Pakistan. So, I Can't trust these Americans at any cost. They are the ones who asked people to do crimes and then they would behave as if something big has happened. Look CIA is responsible for bringing in Narcotic Drugs in the US, but then as its done by CIA so no one talks about it? Why???? Why these double standards????

Arent your familiar with the vigara and enlarge your manhood spam mails filling your junk folder??
Counterfeit medicines and drugs in USA are more rampant than pure water. They are mostly traded by mexicans and illegals from south america but recently Indians armed with the power of cheap call centers have increasingly started to enter this trade.

Big question in my mind... are the drugs pure? Do they work? If so, it's a patent-infingement case. Bad, but not horrifying. If they are fake and impure, that's worse, IMO.

From the original article,

According to court documents, when contacted by an undercover law enforcement officer, Nita Patel provided price list of products offering for sale 'Generic Viagra', 'Generic Cialis', and 'Generic Levitra', each of which is a patent- protected erectile dysfunction drug manufactured in the US.

So I would say they work, its just a case of patent infringement. Still a crime though. And if these people were caught selling spurious drugs they would get much stricter punishment.

India’s drug patent laws are more patient-friendly, allowing generic medications to enter the market far sooner than in other countries like the US. India's pharmaceutical industry is the fourth largest in the world, and India is the single largest producer of generic medicine in the world.

Don't get me wrong, drugs that are pure, produced in India, are welcomed on the world market, where the costs of medicine can be outrageous. But as you've noticed, patents need to be respected. One of the reasons name-brand drugs like Viagra cost so much is the million$ in R & D to develop them.

I agree, for drugs like Viagra, patents need to respected. However for life saving drugs, patent restrictions should be made more lenient, so that poor people can afford the drugs too.

And americans selling the pestisides colas in India..........

Immature.

But Generic Drugs aint bad..You might have heard of Americans travelling to Canada or Mexico to get cheap drugs..Also you must have heard about the Donut problem in HealthCare where your prescription is not covered after a certain amount and
you get back the coverage once you cross some 2000 dollars or so..

This causes people to seek cheaper alternatives.

If they were fake drugs..
US Authorities would have got them life sentence if not more

USA needs India to counter China and therefore handed a light sentence to those Indians selling FAKE DRUGS !!!

The drugs aren't fake. The concern here is the patent violation.
Two people tried to take advatage of the difference in prices and ended up paying the price themselves.

Likely they work, and it's just a patent infringement. The thing about synthetic organic chemistry is that any chem grad student worth their salt can be given a chemical structure

example

and be expected to know how to synthesize it (within reason)

The chemicals structure of drugs and often the synthesis itself is published in things like patents, journal article etc. So it's a fairly simple matter to just rip of a drug and slap a fake label on it.
