Fake 3M N95 masks enter Pakistan*

. .
bhai, there are 4 'Routes of Entry' through which any substance will get deposited in human body.
1) Injestion 2) Inhalation 3) Injection 4)Absorption
the most common being inhalation.

Now when you said that Virus is spread through touch, that is 'Process of Entry' - how virus reaches the point where entry is made into the body. but regardless of whatever POE is, ROE will always be any of the above. So now i want you to review above 4 categories and let us know where 'Touching' fits into the equation.

I highly doubt that a virus will get absorbed into skin, it's a different case when there is an open wound will epidermis and dermis have been punctured. This way the virus will entry the blood stream under the fatty tissue in skin.... @RescueRanger is correct in every aspect. UAE govt is trying to avoid the state of panic that is all.....

I was on mobile hence response was limited.
Most common route of entry for a Biological agent is Inhalation when droplets from infected person are inhaled. An infected person when sneezes on other person or coughs, tiny droplets containing virus are released into the environment. When someone inhales into that environment, those droplets can be inhaled into the body, reaches alveoli & enters the blood stream during gas exchange process in lungs. Since virus is smaller than 0.3 microns it will not be filtered out by the mucous lined membrane in nose or trachea or bronchi. Face Mask in this case will offer protection to the Health Care provider / Professional, as route of entry is protected.

The second most common route of entry for B.A is Ingestion. When you eat or drink in an environment which has been exposed to virus, it will gain entry into the body through Ingestion process via mouth. Hence it is prohibit for health care professionals to eat in work environment. When they are away from work they are required to wash hands with proper solution to ensure that any deposits of the B.A have been eliminated......

N95 mask will offer protection to the patient as well as public since you have eliminated the spread of droplets

The guy you quoted clearly lacks the knowledge on subject matter.

reminds me of a time when I was asked to put on an Overt Vest to go into Hot Zone which was rated to provide protection against cut, slash & Blunt trauma (non blastic). When they handed me the vest it felt odd so I asked the person if I was expecting to be beaten up by Pipes or being stabbed. The guy smiled and thought I was joking, I repeated myself again and shown that I was seeking his confirmation. He said no, but there could be Small Firearms. I responded to him in a bit harsh tone, that why the eff he was handing me a vest which was not rated for SAPI. The guy had confused Non Ballistic Trauma Plates with that of NIJ III inserts. Had I not inspected my PPE properly, I would be getting into a hot zone with false perception of the protection.

Hence it is best to educate ourself on the equipment we are going to use or intend to use. Sadly our people don't pay much attention to this aspect and just go with the flow, do as others are doing.....

Gov of UAE is a GOV, i am talking science.. Please click the link, it's peer reviewed! Thanks! :)

"Community transmission of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, has officially begun in the U.S., with two cases in California and one in Oregon of unknown origin. The first COVID death was reported Saturday, Feb. 29, in Seattle. The natural human response to a strange, new disease making its way to a neighborhood near you is to feel anxiety and want to DO SOMETHING. That’s why many people have been buying up and stockpiling masks. But even if you could buy any in the midst of global shortages, should you?

No.

And if you already have masks, should you wear them when you’re out?

No.

Even if there are COVID cases in your community?

Even if there are cases next door, the answer is no, you do NOT need to get or wear any face masks—surgical masks, “N95 masks,” respirator masks, or anything else—to protect yourself against the coronavirus. Not only do you not need them, you shouldn’t wear them, according to infection prevention specialist Eli Perencevich, MD, a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Iowa’s College of Medicine.

“The average healthy person does not need to have a mask, and they shouldn’t be wearing masks,” Dr. Perencevich said. “There’s no evidence that wearing masks on healthy people will protect them. They wear them incorrectly, and they can increase the risk of infection because they’re touching their face more often.”

But even if you know what you’re doing and you tie your hands behind your back, you still don’t need to wear a mask.

Can general public even use N95 mask? As per this news item it is only for medical professionals and should not be used by public especially children.

To repeat again N95 is NOT a mask specifically deisgned for HCW, this is a myth that is being spread because there is short supply. It is a PPE(Personal Protective Equipment) just like a hard hat, high visibility jacket or motorcycle helmet. The letters N95 are just a standard it is tested to!

Ordinary Surgical masks offer very litter protection against smaller particles and aerosols and ARE NOT considered respiratory protective equipment, whilst the N95 rated masks ARE!

Bro while all of that is true in general situations. Its not true in Coronavirus's case.
The science doesn't always have to work the way we are used to.
Coronavirus only spreads through touch (body interaction with an exposed surface, another person, or some one spitting it on you) and not through inhalation. Masks only protect you from airborne infections and Covid19 is not one of them.
But you increase your chances of getting infected by wearing a mask because then you are touching your face repeatedly with your hands. And touching your face through hands exposed to a coronavirus surface is a direct way of getting the infection.

It's spreading in Pakistan now so you people are concerned, but I have been on this since weeks as we had the first cases a lot earlier.
We have had public health advisory messages and there is so much information available on the Internet advising against the use of face masks (except if you are sick or infected and dont want to infect others).

Just read below:

Brother, I am a Emergency Medical Technician having qualified from University Hospital North Tees, United Kingdom and having 15 years experience in Disaster Management and Emergency Medicine in Pre-Hospital setting.

I hold an associate degree in community health, have published books on the subject of community disaster preparedness and am presently sitting for my post graduate certificate in Disaster and Crisis Management, I am not talking fiction, but experienced fact.

There is NO reason that ordinary members of the public can't wear a N95 mask!

I got that part bro. I was just comparing the UAE governments announcement earlier sarcastically, which of course can be for many reasons including short supply of N95 masks.

But my last post and earlier comments were masks having no use against Corona in general.

And since we are on the subject.
And since I'm totally into survival preparedness.
Can you please recommend a good med kit for keeping at home or in a bag for situations of emergency :)
