The first FAdeA IA-58H Pucara light strike aircraft equipped with new Pratt & Whitney Canada PT-6A-62 engines, after several delays, took its maiden flight on 24 November.

The aircraft selected (tail number AX-561) in June received a re-modelled set of wings from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to accommodate the replacement engines, and then went through several ground tests in preparation for the flight.

FAdeA initiated the Pucara's engine upgrade process in 2011, selecting the ubiquitous PT-6A-62 to replace the discontinued Turbomeca Astazou XVIG, which was proving difficult to maintain.

The project plans to upgrade as many as 20 frames from Argentine Air Force stocks, but currently only one set of re-modeled wings has been received from IAI and it is unclear if more will be forthcoming in the near term.

They Should have bought jf17

Sorry mate but what??? I think your patriotism ( which is fine :pakistan: ) overtook mil avia facts.

The Pucara first flew under full form ( original project from '66 ) in 1973 with IOC in 1976.
The Thunder originated in 1989-91 and its first flight was in 2003 delivery in 2007 with IOC in 2008/10.
Argentina would have had to wait more than 3 decades by your opinion. What's more …

… the Pucara is a turboprop COIN type AC whereas the Thunder is a multi-role jet fighter.
That would be like going to town to buy a 250cc motorcycle and coming back with an SUV. *

In other words, these aircrafts are not in the same class and dogfights between the 2 are unlikely? ;)

Good day to you, Tay.

* With the motorbike being intended for your dad and the SUV going to your son in the end.

Soon we will see ATRs 42 & 72, Bombardiers & Saab 340-2000 with P-3Cs with external and internal weapons for precision strike on ground targets.

Almost but not quite, The-King! Thunder is too much plane is more like it.
They're really not the same class. You're right though that Argentina is in the process of getting new fast jets
and that the JF-17 was on the shopping list and even falsely announced as the winner. It recently seemed
certain that the Fuerza Aeronautica would be getting modernized Kfirs instead but that fell through 72 hours ago.
Argentina cancels acquisition of Kfir jets at last minute - Israel Business, Ynetnews

The main hold-up is a total lack of funds due to economic woes in that beautiful land. You can check about
their long drawn hesitation waltz err, sorry tango below :
Two to Tango? Argentina Looking Everywhere for New Warplanes

But the JF-17 was a fine and fitting choice for them, great for the Falklands 2.0, too bad they back pedaled.

None of which relates to the IA-58 H upgrade in any case.
And good day to you too, Tay.

Agreed Sir.

Agreed Sir.
Even if they managed to arrange fund to buy fighter like JF-17 there will be political issue between the seller country and the UK + USA just because the fact you mentioned Falkland 2.0 :D In case of Pakistan they defiantly pressure Pakistan not to agree on the deal.

Call this plane whatever you like but it scored Argentina's only air to air kill in the falklands. It shot down a Scout helicopter. Against helicopters it is deadly.
