Facebook apologises, says removal of Hamza Ali Abbasi status was mistake

The last line came off as a threat but I do not think he meant it as such. I believe his point was when you have such a large group of people being offended at the same time you cannot prevent a few, in the case of France 2 or 3 of them from doing something crazy.

.
There was a lightly veiled threat at the end of the message, though I am sure it was not intended.

I have couple of question to ask to all the offended Pakistanis Muslims - You folks look down upon all the other religions and Hinduism in particular. I have seen a load of Pakistanis making offensive posts on Hindu gods/goddess here in pdf and other social media platforms. There was a Muslim painter who drew nude pictures of Hindu goddesses. Hindu god/goddess pics were drawn on slippers or under garments.

My questions now -

1) If you get so deeply hurt when someone make fun of your religion, why do you do so to begin with? And please don't deny that you do not insult other religions or look down upon them.
2) Did you see any Hindu go ballistic/on killing spree for the acts of these nutcases/attention seekers? Mostly you would see a protest by a Hindu organization and if it is an online post many will report it and that's it but a large populace will simply ignore them and that's it the story dies there.

Moral :
The more attention you give to the attention seekers, the more they will come after you.

God bless Mohammed bin Qasim for destroying stupid myth centered beliefs, stones and for killing an inbred fool Raja who married his own sister. Chiii, thank God such an ugly and enslaving way of life was tore into shreds by a 17 year old. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be eating beef nihari, chapli kabab and beef sajji today.

Does anyone think this is offensive??? @Armstrong @Syed.Ali.Haider

The questions is, do muslims deserve respect if they are inherently incapable of respecting others???

Every person, wise or fool, is entitled to his/her opinion.

And thats the norm with a vast number of muslims (certainly NOT you). Shouldn't the respect be a two way street?

Absolutely.

We don't agree with polytheism and we have a different reading of history (because history is always read) but the moment one ceases to be civil and respectful in that discourse such behavior ought to be unacceptable.

.
So what is the break up of these 2 billion muslims? Countrywise I mean...

Also, as per the high moral standards of Islam, muslims should set an example for the west to follow by respecting other religions. Now don't say ''we don't mock other prophets'' because thats only respecting your own religion. For example, I've on hundreds of times seen muslims on this very website use offensive language against hindu beliefs, cows, ganesha in particular. They don't get banned. But i were to say anything against your prophet, i'll be banned straightaway. Or the admin here has called hinduism ''mythical'' etc many times or used worde like ''brahmin scum'' etc, but anyone making fun of mythical flying angels and all hell breaks loose.

Add to that such barbaric practices like murder becase your tender feeling got hurt... sheesh!!!
We talk bs about bs in religions... Like I hate Mulls... i dont like cow urine as hindus do...i never disrespect bhagwan and whatever they call them God...I hate fatwas, blasphemy laws...but I never dump myself into such Hindu vs. Islam discussion specially when I see indo-pak people having their keyboard smashing, against each other just to reach the conclusion that who is more superior(chutiya).. Express your opinion but don't laugh make fun of Gods and messengers..etc..

Yes and that is the exact point I want to discuss about. In light of your statement - I would say that the "few" you refer to are the intolerant people/ the extremists/the terrorists.

Now if you cannot prevent the few from doing something crazy, what is the solution? Put a ban on everyone from writing/speaking anything which might hurt the "few" (i.e the few extremists)? or make sure the "few" and their supporters are put behind bars?

I am annoyed because this guy Abbasi says to put a ban on everyone. He says unless west Changes. Inherently he is putting the blame on west. Without any iota of doubt he is clearly saying that west is wrong in publishing the cartoons. Although he says it is not justified to kill the innocent. But I dislike his idea of not doing anything that might upset the extremists.

The world is not afraid of a handful of extremists, and Mr. Abbasi should know this. If he goes and tells this to the Million french people who are out on streets today, I am sure he would have got 100 eggs/tomatoes on his cute face. :D

So instead of telling the world to shut up in fear of few Jihadis attacking the people, he should rather tell the Jihadis to take things a little less seriously and move on rather then go on killing spree.

Well the bold is hard to do because you cannot arrest people for a crime until they have actually committed the crime. So you cannot arrest extremists until they have done an act of violence.

  • People please!!! Enough of this stupid conversation!!!

Freedom of speech is not the same as freedom of consequence. If I want to I can make a rude remark about @levina or I can insult @Armstrong or poke fun at the family of @Nihonjin1051 , i can say these and no one can stop me from doing so. However, after my comments are made, I am not free from consequence. If in broke a law, such as a harassment statute or I made a threat, I can be held liable. I was able to make my comment freely, but I can't do so without reprocussion!!! Mr. Abbasi also exercised his right to speak freely, no one stopped him from making his comment, but considering he violated Facebook's policies he was subject to their consequences.

Please!!!! Stop confusing freedom of speech with freedom of consequence!!!! No one will stop you from talking, but you will be held liable for your actions. When I was in kindergarten we were taught to be mindful of hurting others, why don't adults seem to understand this easy concept?

You can speak your mind, but that doesn't absolve you of responsibility for you actions!

But is is also not good to stop people from writing/speaking freely coz of fear of few Jihadis. It may be difficult but the world cannot accept this blackmail.

Today Jihadis say don't do this. Tomorrow they will say don't do this, and so on. Jihadis and their supporters need to be jailed/killed, howsoever difficult it may seem. Giving in to their demands is not even an option, and something which Mr. Abbasi should not advocate.

I am sure the world will kick the *** of Jihadis so hard, they will remember next 7 lifes.

People should continue to write and say whatever they want, those who are offended need to grow thicker skins. I have seen worse cartoons about Prophet Muhammad PBUH then anything these French dudes drew, got pissed and then moved on with my life.

You will insult me ?

@Nihonjin1051 - And here I thought a Pakistani, a Swede and a Japanese could be brothers who'd one day introduce to the world a Tikka flavored Sushi made with freshly caught Swedish Salmon ! :(

I am not confusing the freedom of speech with the freedom of consequences; I was merely pointing out that his words have been misconstrued to mean something they are not !

And elsewhere 'freedom of speech' is qualified however that qualification does not always account for the sensitivities of all stakeholders; not everyone's 'red lines' may be the same as yours or my 'red lines' - There needs to be a bit open dialogue on this to accommodate each other's sensibilities.

Your argument here can just as easily be used by jihadis. Freedom of speech is and should be total, with NO consequences. The problem with consequence is that western consequence tends to be selective which is what pisses off many Muslims.
