F16 & F18 MII runs into hurdles over export to enemy countries !

there isn't going to be any F16 or F18 MII, we are not going to buy them.
Israel has offered to sale their A/B version F16s. I think India should go for it with upgrade kits and start building at least 5 squadrons of F16 Block 60, that will help us to maintain the numbers in multi-role capacity while keeping cost down. Afterwards we can go for F35 for both Navy as well as Air force. That's the best way ahead in my opinion instead of going for Swedish jet thus creating one more maintenance headache.

Who will allow India to allow? - Last time I checked, they were under US export laws not Indian laws.

They will have to adhere to Indian Conditions if they want anything.

Else they can keep them under US Export Laws and say good bye to Indian Orders.

The recent RFQ for AESA included , Full IP rights ownership , and the OEM would not be able to sell their product anywhere else if it gets selected, only India can market it. While one American Company [Northrop Grumman ] didn't agree to it, other [Raytheon ] did , and it is going to compete for Indian Market share.

The age of F16s on sale by Israel is more or less equal to that of our Bisons.

And one day you will have every kind of plane under the title of flying coffins... :dirol::dirol:

Israeli F16s were inducted 1980 onward while India inducted Mig 21s 1960s onward. Both were inducted in batches and there is minimum two decade of difference between them. So if our government looks deeper, I think it will be beneficial to invest little amount in A/B version and upgrade them using kits, it will be still a great nimble fighter complemented by Tejas, Mig 29s and Mirages in Asian skies dominated by forth gen multi role jets. It is indeed cost effective solution in short end, then government should focus on long term like LCA mark 2s, AMCA, F35, More Rafales, PAKFA/DAs. that is the way forward in lesser cost my friend. If you have nay suggestions, please share.

If you say F16 is flying coffin, then I feel pity on you my friend. F16 is indeed a great plane and I admire those in charge of PAF who took early decisions in 1950s,60s and onward.

Bisons were built between 1978-1984.

And A/B were not inducted in 1980 itself, it was gradual. And airframes of Bisons were built to be rugged but time span was shorter, while F16s were built from scratch to last longer. And Israeli F16s are delivered I think after PAF F16s which are still able to hold on their own. If you do not get my point then let me make it clear again. I am not advocating it is best fighter out there, what I am saying is that it is best possible scenario in lowest possible cost to maintain the sufficient numbers. I had heard about LCA first time when I was I think in 6th or 7th standard, now it has been 4.5 years since I competed my PG and still LCA is not on horizon. We are seriously fuc!up if don't realize now, everything is gone from our end. I have military members in my family so I know inside out what is the actual situation on the ground, rather than flying with standard statements from babus or DRDO/HAL junkyards.

50 Million USD for 10 years life ?

That's not logic.

Laugh as much you want for every laugh is good for life. Just letting you know that there is jet in PAF which is also called the same.

May I know how it is 50 million dollars per jet for upgrade only?

The Flight Hours of Engine and Aircraft are over [The reason the airframes were retired ], and will need either deep overhaul from the OEM or new systems from the OEM.

Deep overhaul and Upgrade of Engine, Radar, Avionics, Airframe, Weapon Systems alone will cost ~50 Million USD.

Training and infrastructure, cost get more high.

And all this for less than 2000 Flight Hours/8-10 years , which very very low , compared to ~20 Years for 47 million USD for our mirage 2000s.
