Scenario a) India tells america dont sell F-16 to pakistan, america sells, india shows door to america , America unhappy , india miserable more pressure to buy suspect nuclear reactors also.
Scenario b) India tells america dont sell F-16 to pakistan america doesnt sell , pakistan buys from Europe,now pressure on india to buy not buying creates more difficulties ,Nuclear reactor option already on.

I guess both scenarios we are going to be r***d, india is a kid in school where america is principal.We are way out of our league here.Goras have experience of 200 yrs ruling.
Nothing good is going to come of this.

What if america justs gives aid and pakistan buys from europe(as they have already done) it is boggling my mind.Now I understand why all of us are not in rajniti.

The only planes then they can buy are - Typhoon and Raphale - both close to $100 mil a piece - not very enticing for them given the costs

or the Gripen (not very potent as compared to the above two).

Else they can stick to the F-16s as US will not give them the F-18 SH

So their choices are narrowed down to:

Gripen or
F-16

now that won't pose a challenge to 200 odd MMRCA's.

exactly what i wanted to say, Americans know what they have to do no stage playing is going to make them change their mind, if that happens then they are also aware of consequences which they eventually will have to face in Afghanistan and apparently that's on the priority list of Americans as we saw recently, during that London conference

Scenario B - Pakistan buys from Europe - The only thing they can afford is F-16 or Gripen not the Typhoon and Raphale as it will cost them quite a bit so again not a big threat to us. We can still reject the American Jets as it is a competition.

Like I said before this is just a feeler and THE USofA will sell the F-16s to Pakistan it is just a smart way to put the blame back on them and follow a "Be good on the face strategy".

I don't know why some members find it a weak statement.

This is a planned strategy.

If US agrees with India and stops F16 sale to Pak, India buys the F18. India gets a good plane, also stops the enemy from getting its aircraft.

If on the other hand US disagrees, India gets an excuse to discard F18 and look at Rafale and Typhoon. In this case also India gets a good plane and also can blame US itself for not listening to India earlier.

Nothing that India will lose here.

Manish - India is not so weak as you assume it to be - USofA cannot blackmail India in anyway. If something of this sort were to emerge - I am sure our IA will take charge of things before anything happens.

Chernobyl or Pripyat was in Russia not USofA, given that logic we should be at higher risk now given we have Russian tech in our reactor currently.

US can't blackmail and will not blackmail India cos it will not be in their interests - they would rather focus on commi CHINA than target us first or even simultaneously, trust me TRUST the Babus they are smart, else we would not have been one of the BRIC nations that we are today.
