The F-16s will be equipped with nuclear weapons as a last desperate resort; ONLY and ONLY if the hundreds of ballistic missile delivery systems, cruise missile systems and stand off weapons are somehow neutralized.

Wouldn't mirages be more suitable for carrying nuke gravity bombs?, I thought the IAF maintains mirages for this purpose.

The mirages are better level bombers but the F-16 is a good at strike for the same reason the IAF uses the M2K. That is because both aircraft have enough electronics on them to survive all the way to target.

Doesn't it make sense to give that role to JF-17s now, since they have much more modern avionics/targeting options?

JF-17's haven't mastered night time precision strikes as well as carrying out LORAP (long range aerial photography). JF-17 in it's current form is a ADA fighter. Until it matures toward Ground attack role, we can't retire Mirages.

Don't the MLU-ed ones come with the same level of technology as BLK52s? Yes there might be some differences, like the EW suite in the D version, but MLU's are suppose to do everything that BLK50s can do as well.....no?

They are more concerned about their cutting edge technology getting leaked than anything else.....your worst nightmare is that those AMRAAMS were supplied by the US.....not to shoot down lost Indian Helicopters.

Hit it on the Head again. Great post Oscar! The USA is just like any other nation looking after No1.ie its own interests. From their perspective their moves are generated by what suits them and they will bulldoze all obstacles when it comes to achieving those aims. Thery dont care what long term damage it causes to the country they have decidedto extract their interest from. The onus of looking after the interest lies with the country itself. Israel does that to the max and gets away with anything as they know how to exploit the US system to their benefit(their are obviously other connotations to this conundrum which for the sake of simplification I am not elaborating).Most other nations either because of shortsightedness, sheer fear mongering or self interest of individuals in high places who are either planted or placed in these positions at the right time or are simply corrupted buy their personal gains are cajoled into playing into the hands of the mighty powers that be. I would fully agree that hte fault for this lies with the very individuals or Governments who walk down the path of short term gains and court long term disaster rather than the US. At the end of the day one reaps what one has sown . To be frank since the times of Zia(whom I have no liking for) no one has stood up for the people of pakistan and this is a weakness of character which we need to eliminate .

Are we really sure that he stood up to the US? Or was he essentially just gambling on the importance at that time. Regardless, the man did show more nerve than the next dictator that ruled this land. The US or any other nation was not able to influence or enact any of its interests that effectively without willing players within the Pakistani state itself.
