The United States supplied Pakistan with F-16 fighter jets to fight terrorism in areas where the Taliban have a strong foothold, US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter reiterated during a joint press conference in India.

However, as Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar shared the Indian government’s concern following the US decision to sell eight F-16 jets to Pakistan. Carter assured that the jets would only be used against terror, Times of India reported.

US Senate rejects move to block F-16 sale to Pakistan

Upon being asked if the US was trying to be a trusted ally of India by supplying the fighter jets to Pakistan, Carter, who is currently visiting India said, “We try to be a trusted partner of India.”

He added that the US has given ‘unique technologies’ to India. “We don’t have an agreement like that with other countries.”

Further addressing the New Delhi’s concerns, Carter said the US ‘values’ its relationship with Pakistan.

F-16 sale to Pakistan should not be of concern to India: Pentagon

“India also has relations with other countries like Russia. We respect that,” he said in the same regard.

“What we do in Pakistan is directed towards counter terrorism. We too have suffered from terrorism emanating from the territory, more specifically Afghanistan,” he further stated.

So in a war Pakistan won't be able to use F-16s against India? Whats the point in having such a restricted jet?
Let USA boot lick India and buy jets from elsewhere. This is,not 1990s.

Good to read full context of discussion Indians were posting here twisting his words to state otherwise

A baseless speculations like some kill devices etc mounted onboard these F-16s. During each and every border stand off F-16s have been deployed by us. Also they perform escort missions and are on ADA duties in all Bases they are stationed and the only night UAV kill and that too of IAF is credited to PAF's F-16s. What else do we ask for?

after receiving 8 jets they are going to acquire 10 more to complete a squadron that is sure

ABSOLUTELY!!!??NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS. SO INDIAN MEMBERS PLEASE REST ASSURED NOW THAT THE US MEMBER HAS ASSURED YOU

Dear Sir

Rather than having some fantastical kill switches or some mystical code which would disable F-16s of Pakistan what I believe the good gentleman was suggesting that they would use their leverage to ensure that India and Pakistan do not get into war like scenario necessitating the use of F-16s against India. In absence of open hostility the usage of these jets self evidently would be only against terrorists.

I do understand the sarcasm in your post but no one is naive enough in India to take Mr. Carter's literally and then base their military strategy on a speech made most probably to endear him to his hosts. In-fact India takes the mastery of F-16s by PAF seriously enough to make a lot of noise which would give an idea of our threat perception of these jets in hands of PAF.

Regards

His shouting sarcasm (in all capitals :D ) does not mean much, Sir. My comment remains short and correct.

I got a faint whiff of trolling out there. Now as a responsible and thoroughly tamed member of PDF I am obliged to report on all unseemly activities on PDF

In a world where geofencing can be applied to youtube videos, what are the odds that lethal military platforms cannot have it? :D

Getting around geofencing is a child's play. Anti access measures have never been successful be they youtube videos, great firewall of china, iphones, missiles or jets.

Of course, Sir. Those who can crack multi-million lines of compiled code running on sealed chips can do anything they would wish to. Of course. :D
