Pakistan will no longer be able to purchase US-made F-16s as Islamabad failed to provide a letter of acceptance to the Pentagon by its May 24 deadline.

The US$699 million deal for eight F-16C D Block-52 multi-role fighters (2 C and 6 D models), was to be partially financed through the US Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programme but the US Congress disallowed selling the fighters at a subsidized price of US$270 and asked Islamabad to pay the full price.

Influential members of the US Congress said that Pakistan had not done enough to end the Haqqani network's sanctuaries on its soil and that it was growing its tactical nuclear weapons and short range missiles aimed at India.

Pakistan rejected the US offer stating that the fighters must come without change to terms already agreed upon.

While Pakistan claimed that the F-16s will be required for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, India had opposed the deal stating that the fighters would be aimed at India.

Pakistan also went shopping for the Damocles targeting pod from Thales of France to be mounted on the F-16s to give it all-weather, non-daylight environments and self-defence/area suppression capability.

Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported quoting diplomatic sources that providing the Letter of Acceptance would have kept the window open for re-negotiating the financing arrangement at a later stage. It also quoted Pakistan’s Ambassador to US Jalil Abbas Jilani, as saying “a dead-end has not been reached as yet.”

Islamabad had earlier said that the US was not the only aircraft supplier in the world and that it had other suppliers lined up to sell warplanes.

Weather to congrats you guys or feel sad

I think Pakistan did it deliberately ....Gen Raheel and Sohail Amman are no slouches ...they know the trade ...If we don't get F-16, we don't need to help US in their Black Ops ...PAF must be having some good alternative ....it must not be that easy but surely it would be not as difficult and embarrassing as to get a bunch of F-16s...I think this is a golden chance to move away from the US camp ....Pakistan, China and Turkey can come up with a better solution ...KSA can be in the same camp too.

.
Good riddance. Start exploring the alternatives the world has no shortage of.

I think USA and Pakistan will reopen the negotiations and try to make the deal work.

F16 is doubt one of the best best fighter in the world but the thing is my brother that string attached to deals with USA has more deadly results. I think Pakistan has done one right thing to say no to USA. Pakistan would be stupid to cut all ties with USA but it would be nice if pakistan explore other options whO are not influenced by USA STUPID SENATORS.. I guess it leave as CHINA & RUSSIA.. BUT RUSSIA is not going to give us there best fighters as they are still close to india. in other world we are left with China.
If Trump is elected as the president than most of the muslim countries will turn towards russia and china. but thats discussion for another time.

Where are we going to spend the money we save from this deal
On new JF17 or going for j10?
Probably Neither. It is likely that you will renegotiate and try to get the F16s. Only a mentally ill can think of rejecting this machine.

.
PDF is happy but PAF officers must be grumbling and hoping that F16 deal will be renegotiated.

I believe PAK will get F 16 fighter plane soon or later:-)

The most funny part is that our PAK friends are abusing and criticising F16 fighters like it is old design..etc.etc from All corner.

But when they will get F 16 then will start appreciating US and PAK friendship and F 16 plane;);):D

And Will target India and his lobbies....
