The focus should now shift to rescue and rehabilitation instead of indulging in petty politics.

@OrionHunter we are not done with floods yet. I have shared warning for tomorrow. One little known TV channel was giving a hard-to-believe news of a possible 16,00K cusec flood in Chenab.

We need Police and military as well as Civil Defense Department staff and volunteers to do their job.

We have been hearing that thousands of police are doing duty in Islamabad, while we have incidents of people destroying embankments to avoid financial loss. The police needs to be protecting law and order situation instead of watching concerts.

Again, the government needs to drop everything and rush to help people in this area of high population density.

for Pakistan the situation is just starting:

The floods will now enter open land mass of Sindh, where it usually causes havoc due to no proper dams or spillways

If you had dams
all this spare water could have been saved for dry season
instead of causing massive loss of life and property
Their is a reason why we are building 60 Dams in Kashmir, so that Life can be spared in future and we get benefit of electricity as well

My ancestors are from Chenab. I hope they remain safe.

This is a vicious cycle of neglect and denial of right of people by not constructing necessary DAMS that protect national assets and lives of people.

And it must be stated that the government (Collection of politicians) have prevented construction of Dams

These waters once they will reach Sindh will no doubt destroy farm land and property

We all experienced the pain of floods in 2007ish.... and here we are 7 years later same situation

A dam could have been constructed in 3-4 years, or a local cannal project to divert rain water safely could have been done at Provincial Level? I mean how difficult is to create channels to take water out of cities ?

Even the indian counter parts can see we have no DAMs what do we expect that they will not release water on their side ?

These losses are 100% preventable and our own fault for not building necessary infrastructure in place

We will see the images and then we will see suffering but why do we allow ourselves to get
hurt like this ? When we know what the solution is ?

The general public will be at mercy of water and floods one more time

People need to educate themselves about Geography of Pakistan and river Chenab before they cry about Dams.

Pakistani "water experts" should perhaps keep that in mind next time they want India to stop building dams on the Chenab.

Pak objects to Kishanganga, 4 other dams on Chenab - Kashmir Times

IWT is such a farce, people on both sides need to sit down, keep the jingoism aside and chalk out a new treaty to harness and share the rivers originating in the Himalayas, this will keep repeating every few years other wise.

You take 3 rivers and we take 3 rivers was perhaps the most unscientific and idiotic water sharing treaty in the history of human kind.

That is a bit different. The basic issue is lack of confidence and trust. Pakistanis are terribly paranoid and rightly so given the history between Pakistan and India.

Is it technically impossible to build dams on these rivers through Punjab to control the yearly floods? China and Egypt had similar problems with Yangtze- and Nile River until they build dams to control this overflow and loss of fresh water.

IWT is farce in a sense that it allows India to build run of river dams? Not to forget in IoK there is no big dam site to build water storage in any case.

We had floods in Jammu and Kashmir because of Chenab overflowing due to incessant rains. We had many loss of life and property damage.
