Explosions rock China, seven killed, 200 injured

At least seven people were killed, about 200 others injured and several buildings destroyed when two explosives-laden vehicles detonated in southwest China on Tuesday, local officials said.

"Seven people have been confirmed dead and about 200 others injured in an explosion that occurred near a gas station in Guizhou Province today," they said.

About 200 people were rushed to a local hospital, 20 of whom are in critical condition, a spokesman with the local rescue headquarters said.

The accident happened at about 11:30 am (9 am IST), when two cargo trucks loaded with about 70 metric tonnes of explosives exploded in front of a motor vehicle testing station in the city of Fuquan, about 100 km from Guizhou's capital of Guiyang, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Windows shattered in nearby houses, and cars parked near the site were severely damaged. A nearby grain warehouse was seriously damaged as well.

A witness said that the testing station was destroyed and a neighbouring five-story residential building was severely damaged. Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene swiftly after the blast occurred.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is under way, the report said.

RIP for the dead!!!!
BTW, what could be motive for such a attack???? as it is rare in China

Very sad. R.I.P for the dead.
It said accident at the beginning of the article so no need to panic about attack etc. We will just have to wait till they get to the bottom of it.

RIP to the dead, could be an accident not necessarily an attack.

Very sad news RIP to the dead .

RIP to the dead, has there been any foul play by terror outfits that is pointed to the deadly explosion. I think this is an accident as there is no internal unrest in China.
Do we have any more info on this explosion

"when two cargo trucks loaded with about 70 metric tonnes of explosives exploded in front of a motor vehicle testing station in the city".
how can it be an accident???
this is an attack according to this line?

Though there is a lot of damage the pic looks like an inspection station here, a place where trucks are checked to make sure thier load isnt over the rated weight for the truck, a road saftey measure. Accidents happen though two trucks both carrying explosives probably shouldnt have been close to each other.

China should investigate who aids and abets these terrorists.

We in Pakistan have many many attacks like these, never had 'em before the US came to Afghanistan though. Now, the "terrorists" claim to be Muslims but bomb mosques, and kill any Muslim clergymen who condemn their activities as un-Islamic.

They're very well-supplied and well-equipped, especially in the region right next to US-occupied Afghanistan. And when the Pakistani Army started a major operation in that area(South Waziristan), some International media which included the Chinese media, reported that Chinese intelligence had reports of increased activity in neighboring Afghan territory, with dozens of US helicopters evacuating terrorist leaders from neighboring Pakistan(Russia Today also covered this I believe). Also, these "Muslim terrorists" were using equipment like highly advanced modern US comm radios that Pakistan couldn't even jam, and things like wine was repeatedly found with these people, which Muslims don't drink at all as it is forbidden..

All I'm saying is, terrorism sharply rises wherever Uncle Sam goes.. Al-CIAda conveniently "shows up" wherever the US needs them to be. They "were in Iraq", when the US needed an excuse to attack them, Al-CIAda was suddenly in Iran in 2009 when the US was sabre-rattling war hysteria against them. Now, "Al-CIAda" appears to be operating in China.

It was an accidental explosion, not an act of terrorism. RIP to the deceased, & may God give their families the strength to overcome their loss. May God bless the injured with a speedy recovery.

It's not an attack. The location was at an industrial district, with few pedestrian traffic. If this was an attack, it would take the world's biggest idiot to waste 72 tons of explosive just for a few lives.

Remember, this was 72 tons, not pounds of explosives. This was what 2 tons chemical fertilizers were capable of back in the 1994 Oklahoma City bombing:
