Its a Public Diplomacy Initiative taken by Government of India (Ministry of External Affairs) to inform and attract people around the world towards Indian culture, customs, dance forms etc.

Its a good initiative to build Soft Power by using the inherited characteristics of India and to make a positive impression among people of every country.

As there are many posters from around the world on this forum, we want to inform about India. Its a good platform and helps in creating understanding, removing doubts and learning about various aspects of India.

It also helps in highlighting the cultural ties of India with other nations since a long time.

P.S. A humble request. Kindly avoid India bashing videos. This thread is to inform about India and its rich cultural heritage.

No bashing of any country, no comparison with any country (in negative way).

@WebMaster Kindly issue a statement regrading Code of Conduct in this thread.

thank for starting this @KRAIT.
will surely try and contribute.
Thanks mate. We should explain what India is so that people can understand this country.

It is also an attempt to remind Indians about our own culture which is being ignored by Indian youth whereas Western people are getting attracted to this.

As they say, grass is greener from far way. :D

We have to balance the Indian and Western school of thought for modernizing India while keeping and saving our culture.

Very well mate. This will be even more beneficial for the Indians staying abroad.

Chinese Buddhism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vedic Deities such as Buddha (Fozu) and Yama (Yanwang) found a comfortable place amongst the Pantheon of Chinese Gods. Though the most popular Buddhist deity in my region is Guanyin, Sanskrit name: Avalokitesvara.

Largest statue in the world, the Spring Temple Buddha in Henan Province.

According to Buddhist ideology, neither Buddha nor Guanyin are really "Gods". Buddha is a Buddha, and Guanyin is a Bodhisattva.

However in practice, both of them are worshiped as Gods here. This seems to be a common trend in East Asian Buddhism.

Buddhism has also merged very strongly with Traditional Chinese Culture, and also merged with the native belief systems such as Taoism and Confucianism. In practice, a religious Chinese person may follow customs from all three systems without any conflict of interests between them.

My parents for example are Chinese Buddhists, but also practice Ancestor worship, and pray to a vast array of Deities (Guanyin and Tianhou are popular here) that are taken from either native religions or Buddhism.

Can you tell me about the type of Buddhism followed in Mongolia. Do you too have something like Japanese Zen.

Many people say that Kung Fu (Gongfu/Wushu) was brought to China by the Indian Buddhist monk Batuo (Buddhabhadra).

This is not quite correct.

In fact it was Batuo who started the Shaolin Monastery, which led to the creation of one of the most well-known forms of Chinese martial arts, Shaolin Kung Fu.

But this was not the first Chinese martial art. In fact Chinese martial arts existed in China almost 1000 years before the creation of the Shaolin Monastery. Shaolin Kung Fu is just one of the most famous forms, not the first.
