Expensive Chinese vaccines stir hornet's nest in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka

. .
The prices should be compared ex work (Chinese port) because it is possible that due to distance fare charges are additional.

Freight to Sri Lanka should be lower compared to Bangladesh if the vaccines are freighted via sea. Sri Lanka is much closer to trans-shipment point (in this case Singapore) than Bangladesh is.

It is possible, however that Sri-Lankan govt. officials may have been involved in padding prices at a higher rate than Bangladeshi officials.

Or Bangladesh got better pricing because of higher volume maybe? There ARE more people in Bangladesh after all.

Like they say - anything for a buck...even over dead bodies.

By the way - once Biden authorizes vaccine release to the subcontinent, this may be slightly irrelevant.

There could also be ingredients sent to Bangladesh so local pharma companies make vaccines locally.

its air freight so your logic isn't valid.

At least China is delivering the vaccines, unlike India that took the advance money even before the vaccine was approved for use and then declined to deliver.

Every country is free to bargain as much as they want and the price also depends on the total quantity

.
But that's because the UK subsidised it and did a favour to the world, to have the EU and interests behind Pfizer to crap on us.
The Chinese vaccine is still cheaper than Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson shot etc.

I am a Pfizer man

I am just curious . Is BD in a position to bargain? Unless they can bring their own vaccine to the market. They have to purchase vaccine from others.

Why this bargaining? The vaccine today that is $10 will be $50 tomorrow .

You do realise that without vaccine no one from BD will be able to go to to other countries. BD workers who work in the middle east for example wont be able to go there and resume remittance to BD? Remitance is still a massive source of income, for these workers and Their families and the Govt of BD. Not sure how interested the sheikhs will be to vaccinate BD Workers in ME.

Will the BD govt be able to create jobs for these jobless people and make up the remittance income loss? The economy is doing fine now, compared to others but mainly because the big players are not playing ( economy closed). What happens from 2022 when major economies open and they refuse to Deal with BD because the corona pandemic is not in order in the country. Will the fabled BD economy survive?

BD economy will be forced to close and BDT will value will crash.

So to prevent a economic disaster, atleast 60 % of the population should be vaccinated within the 1 year

Vaccines are not the only way to gain "herd immunity".

In the UK, in the largest and longest study done to date of nearly 10 months between initial infection and any subsequent infection, it was found that having the virus before reduced the chances of reinfection by 90%.

BD can gain "herd immunity" by vaccinating its most vulnerable 20% who will account for 90% of hospitalisations and 99% of deaths and by natual immunity from prior infection.

Typical selective post by western. They pick a few example of their favor while ignore countries like Qatar, Turkey, Brazil and Indonesia using Chinese vaccine.
their reports are out yet ?? i tried to find, could not find much though.
