Sorry sir but a infantry soldier goes through a training time of 6 moths and then moves to other specialist trainings oe trade as it is called in army....similarly eme soldier oes for 2 years of training..

elite police forces stand guard around there 24/7. I have even interacted with them, they are motivated. They dont have bomb-proof vehicles or anything, but they are quite fit physically and seem to be quite alert to surroundings.

Not the stereotypical "pan spitting" "belly-having" police types who were on political party payroll in the past. I'm not saying those days are over, but I sincerely feel that things are slowly changing.

I never said that they were incapable or unmotivated. Even in their case as an elite special operations force of the police, they are still underfunded, under-equipped and exploited. The high and mighty have them running around like orderlies. Elite force has carried out many amazing raids in Sargodha and Gujranwala.

As for the stereotypical thulla, of course there are many many factors involved but "THE" factor is the state's failure in equipping, motivating, funding, training and exploiting him. When there was a political will to use them properly like eradicating the sectarian violence in the '90s, they responded fine (not great but fine).

Police Officers are normally highly capable and motivated (when they join), but the system takes its toll on these dynamic people. I'll even say that intellectually they are ahead of their counterparts in the armed forces but the system has such a disastrous effect on most of them that they are rendered useless and become a source of pain to the society. The level of challenge we face today is big enough to realize that effective policing is necessary, not just to control extremism but as the first step towards a just society where the rule of law can be upheld.

I have an article somewhere that I have left half-written. It's based on interviews with 6 ASPs (in all 4 provinces), 2 DSPs, 2 SSPs and a DIG. The basic thing I did was ask for an inventory of all the equipment in the police stations under their authority. You'd be amazed to hear how archaic the guns were and how little they had for countering a violent mob or a gang for that matter.

That is a bold statement to make but if you're assigned to even the crookest of politicians, it is your duty to protect him. He is not doing his duty properly, the duty people have assigned him to do but if one becomes self righteous and believes they way you say, then you are not fulfilling your role as well. On paper, the politician and the soldier not protecting him look the same; not doing what they have been tasked to do and what they have taken an oath for.

Army imparts counter-terrorism training: 313 Punjab policemen complete course near Kharian

RAWALPINDI: A batch of 313 Punjab Police personnel who received counter-terrorism training from the Pakistan Army completed the course near Kharian in two separate ceremonies held on Friday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Jehlum and Kharian general officer commanding (GOC) were the chief guests on the occasions respectively. While addressing the Punjab Police contingent, the Jehlum GOC emphasised the importance of specialised training to combat the menace of terrorism. He expressed hope that the special anti-terrorism training imparted by the army will go a long way towards improving the professional acumen of the law enforcement agency.

He congratulated all trainees on successfully completing the training, and sought pledges from the police personnel that they would maintain the acquired standards of marksmanship, physical fitness and mental robustness. In his address, the Kharian GOC expressed confidence that the counter-terrorism training will go a long way in improving the police force’s professional capability. He appreciated the dedication, motivation and commitment shown by the police jawans.The ISPR said the Pakistan Army, under a phased-programme, is imparting counter-terrorism training to policemen in all provinces, and had trained 8,437 NWFP police recruits and 792 selected individuals of Punjab Police so far. Besides training, the Pakistan Army has also assisted the NWFP police by providing equipment and weapons. staff report

Im my opinion one of the most messed up things about pakistan's system is its police. Fix that and we can fix 70% of our problems related to corruption, terrorism and stability within pakistan. What we need is a police force that is independent of the political system, if we can get it out of the deathgrip of our politicians we can effectively put an to this "elite badmashi", deliver justice and bring peace to this turmoiled nation. We have an army at the borders, we need one within them too

With budgetary allocations ranging b/w 6.5 and 8 percent in the provinces, equipping and training them is the foremost matter. A well fed policeman can exercise his authority and avoid being puppeteered by a politician or a local landlors

Money has been continuosly allocated by the government to train and equip them for over fifty years, yet a taliban hideout has better fortification, better equipment and better everything as compared to the police. This is why its important to change the infrastructre, all the allocated money is pocket by the goons. The average policeman is still trying to make due with the same "daal roti" and those ones with a bigger appetite then derail into shameless bribery.

Better equipping training them is useless unless the system can work independantly, we have a trained force but what happens when this trained force captures a known crook, zardari's cronies give you a your higher ups a call and you and your well equipped force is told to escort the man back to his place and apologise for this mistreatment. This is a loophole in which our system is stuck and the sad thing is it sucks in those willing to put up a fight. It doesnt matter how many guns you give them, unless they are allowed to do their job, it doesnt matter how well you train them they wont be able to do their job.

Not only that, from a morale standpoint, we would have dealt with the very worst our enemies could throw at us and emerged from it with flying colours.

THIS is the year of our victory. Everyone in the GoP/Army/Police I speak to seems to be supremely confident.
