Exclusive: TikTok's Chinese owner offers to forego stake to clinch U.S. deal - sources

When I was active duty, I made friends with a few people in the intelligence sector of the USAF, namely, the guys who flies those SIGINT flights off the coasts of the Soviet Union and China. So am going to paraphrase what I learned from these guys...

Let us say I am a burglar looking at your house.

Let us say I intercepted a message you sent to your parents: " We are having a great time in Disneyland. "

According to communication specialists, of which there are plenty in the intel world, the bulk of our communication is composed of 'filler materials'. Since I am a burglar looking to rob you, do I care if you have a 'great time' in Disneyland? No, I do not. Of that sentence, I am only interested in four words: " We" , " are ", " in " , and " Disneyland ". It does not matter if I decoded the sentence out of order. The English language is such that with those four letters, I know when to rob you. Fifty percent of your message was 'filler materials'.

Under Chinese laws, TT is obligated to provide the Chinese government with as much user data as possible when ordered. Not requested, but ORDERED. A request at least implied an option to refuse. This is not the case. If ordered, TT must comply. It is not just TT but all companies with size over X employees that the national intelligence law applied.

So what can China do with user data from a social media software? More threats than you can think of.

Nefariously speaking, I can use that user data to compile a list of highest concentration of young Americans and disperse NBC agents to targets in that list. US military bases are open knowledge, so I can use that user data to compile a list of time when there is lowest social media activities to hint at base operations. This is not new. Washington DC pizza operators know whenever something is up at the Pentagon based on sharp spikes of delivery orders.

Interesting read.

With some of my acquaintances, they say the security concerns with apps which are teen-centric like TT, have to do with the ability to use the user data to phish into a high-value target's kid's phone and gain complete access. Proceed to have access to all apps and messages. Install hidden apps that record all activity. Hack the camera to observe facetime with dad/mom stationed outside of the home territory, pick up inadvertently talk about location.

Another hypocrite, free speech ends when it starts to offend me. Mr. Duke must've really got under your skin for you to undermine the very fabric of the American constitution because meanthink hurts your feefees.

This is why no one takes western concerns about Hong Kong seriously, pot calling the kettle black much?

It's not free speech issue it's a platform issue. David Duke can still go into rally & spread his white supremacists nonsense. Just not on Twitter.

... I will stick to verifiable facts. The only way we can sustain ourselves as a wealthy nation is by having buyers outside of the US,. We don't have a billion people as a consumer base.

American industries and governments have invested and continue to do so in many countries, for this very reason.

1. The Chinese industrial GDP growth was hugely in part of American companies building their industrial export base. Teaching the Chinese, starting in the late 80s: the know-how behind the western global industrial infrastructure, developing and scaling their global supply chain, getting membership into the WTO, and investing substantial American FDI in China. Let's not forget access to the American consumer base leading to fantastic growth. All of this has come back to bite us now, especially getting them accepted into the WTO.

Aside from off the shelf main stream media and Washington beltway narrative that you have repeated, China reached to where it is by being part of global trade and investment systems. Chinese research, education, industry and accomplishments are commendable. Problem with Washington beltway thinking was that they wanted China to be just sweat shop supplier not a industrial giant and innovation center. That type of American thinking (displayed by US media and in general) hark back to US slave trade days. That was a despicable chapter then and even more despicable narrative now.

Needless to say US spent trillions doing "crusade" against Muslims, wasted decade+ in invading, killing and shocking and aweing from Afghanistan to Libya and anything in between. All while China developed in full speed. China is not to blame for US actions and shortsightedness.

2. We want more consumers in the world to afford the high valued products we sell! Suppose Bangladesh becomes the world's number one garment producer and a 5 trillion dollar GDP economy. That then, it bodes well for high-valued US products being affordable to its high per capita consumers.

If India can move into a 10 trillion dollar economy, that bodes exceptionally well for our products sold to a market of a billion people! So on and so forth with most other nations.

Its not a problem with US products, there are lots of people in all over the world like to consume US made products because of rich feature and quality among other things. iPhone being one example. PROBLEM is US fallen behind in research and development and technological innovation. Instead of doubling down on research, development and innovation (in product, service and in statecraft as well) US is trying to use war, threat, sanction and creation of instability as way to answer its shortcomings. This way main stream media and Washington beltway may benefit BUT as use of USD going down, so are the utility of these coercive threats and tools.

3. America wants to see shared prosperity among many nations
because it cascades into high incomes for all emerging economies.
Given this backdrop, it could not be further from the truth to say we are only about us.

What you typed in last few sentences are indeed further from truth. You left out the fact, US do not mind other nation having high income SO LONG that nation is obedient to US hegemony and dictate. Case and point, Germany where German wish to get cheap Russian gas through pipeline triggered all kinds of US propaganda lie and nasty coercion.

One piece of advise to you, please do not narrate off the shelf US propaganda materials, world is much more aware of broader picture and reality.

The Chinese government would not care about such low level activities. At the state level, real time, or near real time, data on items like population movement or economic trends by age groups, are far more valuable.

What does "hateful conduct" mean?

Quote from twitter TOS - 'You may not promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease. We also do not allow accounts whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of these categories.'

Mr. Duke never threatened anyone with violence nor promoted violence in general, the posts leading up to his ban did not attack other people on any of these categories. So your wrong on that one. Defend social media companies all you want. After all you're doing it for free while they make billions, promote political agendas and censor wrongthink.

More emotional baiting. Mr. Duke was briefly a member of the KKK 40 years ago, and even if he still was, so long as he pursues his goals peacefully he is completely entitled to his beliefs.

Because you're intellectually dishonest and probably deficient, I'm not going to spoon feed you the difference between nationalist and supremacist ideology because you won't get it. But for anyone else interested.

Supremacist = Believes in the supremacy of their people over others, case in point Zionists

Nationalist = Believes in having a national identity, such as a defining racial or religious identity. So I guess like Israel

Isn't it funny how Israel gets to be Supremacist and Nationalist and NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT?!?!?

Should be suspending Netanyahu's account not Mr. Duke's

I wonder after he left his KKK chapter over a dispute, did his racist idealogy check out too?

David used regularly tweet with the thinnest of plausible deniability, calling Black people “savages,” Jewish people “degenerate filth,” and using three parentheses around the names of Jewish people—an anti-semitic code sometimes referred to as an “echo.” Duke also uses anti-trans slurs like “tranny” and complains about the “Jewish-led homo agenda.” A notorious Holocaust denier, Duke often puts the word “Holocaust” in quotes seemingly to belittle the atrocity. Duke is a professional racist, so obviously, the list goes on and on.

" Julia Reed in The New York Review of Books in April 1992 that Duke left the Klan for selling its membership to a rival Klan leader who was a Federal Bureau of Investigation informer.
