EXCLUSIVE: Nirbhay Cruise Missile Deviates From Trajectory, Terminated Mid Air

Better luck next time. Missie tests usually fails during initial tests, thats ok. Next time it will be a grand success.

Some people in DRDO need to be fired for this, there was a report in Indian express just before the test about the shortcomings in the missile & how some people in the organization are pushing the tests in order get promotion @Providence

Happens across the globe.

A visit back to the drawing boards is needed. I believe this theory of test being "partial success" is being peddled by those same bunch of free riders who wanted the test in first place.

Although entirely different, but if India can send probe to mars and test quasi-ballistic missiles from subs, they surely can develop a commodity science product like a cruise missile.

Yes its called ambition and taking a risk. ........... no one gets fired for showing initiative. The just learn from their mistakes and move on to do great things with their lives.

Unlike some who bitch and whine and pass judgement without doing anything of value with their own lives :P

Yes we can, but things can go wrong for anyone, isn't it. After all its the initial test. If US or Russia tries to build a V-2 replica that also can fail initially, isn't it?

On a more serious note, this failure could be due to pushing forward with the testing to adhere to strict timelines.

There was a report that said the tests were conducted without certain mandatory process and quality checks being followed. They were short circuited to expedite the process.

Flags were raised but I guess the power that be, went ahead anyway in the hope that everything will work out well. As luck would have it, it din't. So more than going back to the drawing board, a stricter adherence to process and quality control would be the way forward.

The new govt. is very strict about project timelines and the pressure will take its toll somewhere. Part of the growing pains.

Of course. No one is deriding the project. My contention is this partial success theory being spread.
Folks here are trying to find solace where there is none.

That is your prejudice talking. When DRDO official report has said the same thing, what is your problem ?

A LOT of missile parameters were validated as mentioned. Inducing its successful launch, flight deployment, etc.

These were already validated in 2013. Did they require re-validation. There were changes in Nirbhay but not to amount that required Launch-101 validations. So whats the point?

flight deploymen

And U actually meant Wings Deployment.Right?

How do you now there were no changes in the flight configuration ? height, weight, center of gravity, design, component, layout, chemical composition, fuel etc ?

Its still in design and testing phase. A Million things will change before the design is frozen.

2013 tests had no issues with the basic design. 2013 test basically failed because of issues with INS.Yesterday they flew it with even same fuel tank which was suspected if it has cleared the the Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) tests thus making it vulnerable during flight. Having said so there are always changes incorporated when required but not those ones which have been cleared during testing phase. They first let is successfully fly and then go for mods.

.U can see basic changes here.

New Nirbhay 02 Missile.

Its was a spectacular failure tbh, the missile didn't even enter the terrain hugging phase before it went off course (supposedly). On a positive note though, hope they got enough data to identify the inherent problems and rectify it for the next missile.
