I strongly advise you to read Javed Chaudhry 's book Zero Point and Bhutto's last 101 days before coming to any conclusion. I don't remember the name of author of second book,but Zero Point is really a good book.

zia lost siachen without firing a shot ! , which once our army & air force used to patrol in the summers, before we lost it thanks to zia, can we even think of that today ? , this guy made our northern areas smaller by losing siachen ! ,any person worth his/her salt can never forgive zia for that !
plus I want to ask this author, what's the use of all those high GDP's & pop music's if one cannot even protect ones land ?

Apart from losing Siachen & making the Northern Areas smaller,what about other issues like Sectarian voilence,political voilence, Extremism, Talibanization, crime,murder,terrible law & order. Zia may have lost Siachen, but today Extremism is eating your country like a PARASITE which is the biggest threat. Is everything linked with Siachen,where not a blade of grass grows.This was not the case earlier,Karachi was a peaceful city in the early 1970's,all this changed after the Afghan war.

Besides nurturing & encouraging fundamentalism whose effect the region sees now, to me the greatest fault of Zia & other Military dictators world wide is as under :

1. Violating the constitution / law of the land he as a soldier must have sworn to uphold & defend.

2. Set a precedent as a senior officer of breaking the law - & when a junior does / did the same he must have thrown the book at him.
