In India also nationalization happened but in core and investment intensive sectors. Nehru invested public money heavily in Iron & Steel sector, Alluminium sector, infrastructure like railways etc. At that time Indian capitalism was in nascent state. Indian industrialists did not have large money to invest in these areas. Indian capital and capitalist required nurturing and protection which Nehruvian mixed economy provided. Indira Nationalized bank sectors which provided stability in money market. All Tata s, Birlas, Ambanis etc are now able to fight globally because of past nurturing. It was a long term policy which is giving fruit now.

So cannot say that Bhutto's protectionist, nationalisation intention was wrong , it may be possible that the policy and plan formulated to execute the intention was faulty. Further, Bhutto got very few years to implement the policy.
