What's new

Everyone talks about the Sri Lanka port leased to China, why no one talks about this Aussie port ?

No media??? is that what they taught you in the US school?

And even your president shows his contempt for your media and journalists. I doubt anyone, even Indian on this forum, still take Western media as a trustful source.
Indians feel that their so-called freedom and democracy are the end of history and is the ultimate goal of mankind. They feel that the communist countries are hell and demons.

BUT In fact, China and Vietnam have achieved far more achievements in economic development and improvement of people's lives than in "democratic" and "free" India.

It's hard to call China and Vietnam communist anymore.
Sorry, I meant military ships

It can't be used for military purposes but does not mean that Chinese naval ships can't dock in it. Non-Chinese military ships have already docked in the port.

The Sri Lankan Navy base for southern command will be moved from Galle to Hambantota which means Chinese ships docking in the port will be inevitable during friendly visits and joint excersices

If you want to call the Chinese media media that is fine. Ask yourself what is the point of media.

Trump contempt for American media does not impact their ability to function.

Define "Western media" - it is a lot more than TV/Radio/newspapers. think internet

Sri lanka also doesn't allow their port being used militarily, it's for commercial use, we always know.

So China leased a port that was completely built by Chinese money, that means without Chinese money there was nothing but dirt, we basically rented a piece of land which had nothing on it and needs to pour billions to develop it into profitable infrastructure, how great this deal sounds .

The operative phrase in your post is "profitable infrastructure"
If the whole thing was profitable why would Sri Lanka have to lease it to China

What is the point of getting things you do not need ?

If you were an investor you would look at it differently.
An investor would look for a few features if they want to set up factories or any processing plant in a country or city, for example,

1) What is the infrastructure ?
  • Port Facilities
  • Transportation
  • Electricity
2) Tax Benefits,
  • Taxes on importing machineries in setting up factories
  • Property tax or Municipal taxes

An investor would see that Sri Lanka built an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEC) near the port with Transportation and Power facilities. I am not sure what kind of benefit Sri Lanka offers, but generally EEC zones enjoy great tax benefits.

So if you are that investor, at the very least Sri Lanka can say you can open your business here !

Everything you says make sense. Explain which factory owner and company is interested in Sri Lanka

That is no longer as issue for Sri Lanka as they don't have to make payments for the port any more as China took over the port. China has the port, maintenance, all operating expenses, and a place to support God knows what Chinese activities in the area ! Consequently, it will be a headache for the US Navy, oh almost forgot the Indian navy too !
Sri Lank with it $8 billion debt to china will probably get some protection from the latter !

Well said, port finished MEANS end of history, that is the mind set of indians, for Chineses and other hard work countries, port finished means 1% among the 100 % jobs need to do.

Sri Lanka gov is sharing the net profits made by Chinese operation of the said port!

God knows activities of CHINA?
Trust me, CHINA has no intention to take care Sri Lanka by making it CHINA own territory, some places of northwest CHINA are far more poor than Sri Lanka or any South Asia countries coz of tough natural conditions, in a word, lack of water!
Chineses are busy making money and friends and would like to share the experience of making money with brother hood countries like PAKISTAN , Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Buthan, Cambodia, Burma, Laos, Thailand, etc.
CHINESE has no interests to colonize any country which means nothing but losing money and reputation while do not help China master the most advanced high technology.

China never regards any country as a threat unless you regard China as yours. We hate the Japanese because the Japanese have invaded China and slaughtered the Chinese, not the other way around.

Those who do not know to share can not be great for long.

Arrangements like this are not that uncommon, its called Build, Operate, and Transfer. Typical lease period is 20-30 years where the private entity keeps all the proceeds minus the maintenance and operating cost. There is a talk now about building a refinery near the port, this would not have been possible without the port.

Sri Lankans are not seemed to be concerned about any sovereign issue. Sri Lanka eradicated India induced LTTE terrorism 10 years ago, I think they take their sovereignty and security very seriously.

I don't know when to start: a Chinese company contracting a project in a country will become a national security issue.

If a Chinese company that makes money for a purpose can threaten a country, is the Chinese People’s Liberation Army 10,000 times stronger?

EPC contract to be accurate.

You think Chinese were stupid to pour billions!! Off course not. Everyone is working for their interests.

India obviously does something to break the necklace
