BRUSSELS (EJP)---The European Union on Tuesday strongly condemned ‘’the indiscriminate firing of rockets into Israel by Hamas and militant groups in the Gaza Strip, directly harming civilians.’’

‘’These are criminal and unjustifiable acts,’’ the EU said in a statement published after a meeting of the 28 EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels.

The EU called on Hamas ‘’to immediately put an end to these acts and to renounce violence’’ and said ‘’all terrorist groups in Gaza must disarm.’’

The EU also strongly condemned ‘’calls on the civilian population of Gaza to provide themselves as human shields.’’

At a press conference after the ministerial meeting, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said all ministers recognized ‘’Israel's legitimate right to defend itself against any attacks’’ but the EU statement underlines that the Israeli military operation “must be proportionate and in line with international humanitarian law.’’

The EU called for an ‘’immediate cessation of the hostilitiesbased on a return to the November 2012 ceasefire agreement’’, welcomingon-going efforts by regional partners, and in particular by Egypt, and reiterating its readiness ‘’to provide the necessary support to this end.’’ ‘’The EU calls on all sides to implement in good faith an immediate cease fire.’’

‘’We are in contact with several parties in the region, including US Secretary of State John Kerry (who is Egypt),’’ Ashton said.

The EU also ‘’condemned the loss of hundreds of civilian lives, among them many women and children’’ and stressedthe ‘’need for protection of civilians at all times.’’

The statement dde: ‘’The EU is particularly appalled by the human cost of the Israeli military operation in Shuja’iyya, and is deeply concerned at the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation. All sides must meet their obligations and immediately allow safe and full humanitarian access in Gaza for the urgent distribution of assistance.

The EU said the escalation of hostilities ‘’confirms again the unsustainable nature of the status quo with regard to the situation in the Gaza Strip.’’

‘’While fully recognizing Israel's legitimate security needs, the EU underlines that the humanitarian and socio-economic situation in Gaza must be addressed. It reiterates its call for the immediate, sustained and unconditional opening of crossings for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and persons to and from the Gaza Strip, in line with UNSC resolution 1860 (2009),’’ the statement said.

The EU said it is ready to reactivate the EUBAM Rafah mission ‘’if conditions allow’’ and ‘’to contribute to a comprehensive and sustainable solution meeting the legitimate security, economic and humanitarian needs of Israelis and Palestinians. ‘’

Israel Surprised by EU Call for Hamas Disarmament
Wednesday, July 23, 2014 | Israel Today Staff

Israel was pleasantly surprised on Tuesday when European Union foreign ministers echoed Jerusalem’s demand that Hamas and its terrorist allies be disarmed as an outcome of the current Gaza war.

“The EU calls on Hamas to immediately put an end to these acts and to renounce violence. All terrorist groups in Gaza must disarm,” read the first clause of a joint statement issued following a meeting in Brussels.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry issued its own statement praising “the European Union’s call for the disarmament of the terror organizations in the Gaza Strip of their weapons and the demilitarization of Gaza. These EU statements are completely in line with the perception that guides Israel in the fight against terrorism and they open the door for cooperation in implementing common principles for restoring peace and security.”

Indeed, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the week told CNN that the international community must “undertake a program to demilitarize Gaza,” explaining that Israel could not tolerate a war with Hamas every couple years.

A week earlier, Netanyahu explicitly told visiting Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini that the disarmament of Gaza had become a major goal of the current war and for Israel in the long-term. Prior to that, former Israeli Defense Minister Shaul proposed offering $50 billion investment in Gaza in return for Hamas handing over its missile stockpiles.

Really?Because ragtag terrorists can hardly do anything worthwhile against capable nations with the guts to take the problem head on.We see that in US,Russia in chechenya,PRC in its various campaigns against separatists or India in kashmir and northeast. The Israelis now with silent approval of all global players relevant in middle east i.e,US,EU,Russia and China to an extent, will now have a far more liberty to deal with islamic terrorists. This is already evident by the hamas terrorists surrendering in dozens.

Silent approval? ???? The jews have always had silent approval and where has it gotten them a nation with no peace where its capital comes under rocket fire, a rising muslim population and virulent hatred from across the world and especially from the 1.7 billion and growing muslim world

The Americans are giving up against the Taliban, there solution in iraq was to pay off the sunni fighters to stop killing American soldiers. They have wasted trillions and had thousands of soldiers killed for hardly any advantage

Russias great strategy is to give checniya on a plate to a former islamic rebel so he can keep it cslm and spend russian money building mosques and islamic centers to placate the population

India after 60 years still has to keep thousands of soldiers in kashmir, spend billions in subsidies , all for the youth of the state to raise Pakistan flags and support Pakistan in beating india....... india couldn't even stop hindu pandits being cleansed from the state
and only a few days ago yet another indian soldier was killed on the border

You have to understand how strong muslim will to resist against an enemy is

China too, act stupid, ban fasting

dosent make muslims accept injustice makes them more determined to express their culture and religion

china has been a reasonable power and it could
gain an immense amount of influence in the massive muslim world if it doesn't antagonise its own muslim citizens
