EOI for manufacturing and assembly of 80kN thrust class engine

That's always a good answer. :enjoy:

Seriously though, why would they shelve the project if it achieved 80 Kn?
it was taking way too much time and dragging the LCA development further down. SO it was delinked from the LCA program.

Because it was useless to develop this engine. We needed 90-93 KN (Tejas) , 40 KN (For AURA) and a 25 KN (Passenger Jets Trainers) and Engine. Kaveri fits into none of the requirement.
40 KN is dry thrust

Because it never achieved 80 KN...the best it could do was 70 KN....
Kaveri was designed to generate thrust of 85 KN ..whereas it generated only 81 KN not 70 KN ........Along with weight issue ..

KAVERI ENGINE

Kaveri Engine is an augmented low bypass twin spool turbofan engine of 80 KN thrust class. The engine cycle is based on a detailed systemanalysis culminating into a potential power plant. The engine incorporates flat rated characteristics to pre-empt and mitigate the thrust drop due to high authority digital engine control with an adequate manual backup is a salient design feature of Kaveri Engine.

Salient Features
• Twin Spool, Low bypass engine
• Air mass flow : 78 Kg/s
• Overall pressure ratio : 21.5
• Max thrust (Dry) : 52 KN (5290 Kg)
• Max thrust with after burner : 81 KN (8260 Kg)
• Thrust/weight ratio : 7.8
• Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC)

DRDO

Looks like GTRE is looking for a company to produce 20 80kN thrust engines.
GTRE should be disbanded forthwith. They've taken 30 years and produced a lemon of a jet engine. These clowns masquerading as scientists and engineers need to be sacked as they have been playing the fool for decades earning fat salaries and allowances from tax payers on the pretext of designing the engine.

I want my money back!

Hold on my bwoy. Had metallurgy been so easy, then Bangladesh would had it's own jet engine. In fact, only 4-5 nations make reliable jet engine should tell you something. Kaveri was an ambitious of it's time, and our boys have achieved a remarkable feat. Just because it got disbanded, doesn't mean it's insignificant. I'm sure K9 and K10 will be something to be proud of.

It never achieved trust more than 70 KN's....

why don't you make one ?...............making a jet engine is not small task ........to make low weight high temp. alloy will take decades ..............see how much money is investment by GE or Chinese engine maker how much we have invested in kaveri........ .what GTRE has achieved a great feat by making a working 80KN kaveri .........but you need a lot more resources make it successful

It never achieved trust more than 70 KN's....
Are you some how related to GTRE?

80 KN engine for what??

LCA Block II got F-414..80+ KN engine has only one purpose,Fighter Jets..

Only thing comes into my mind is something like this...

OR may be it is a test platform to test concepts of AMCA.

Let's hope this time they are successful

Dude, do one thing. Try to disassemble and re-assemble a 0.23Kn turbine then we will talk about MAKING 80Kn engines. If nothing, go to your nearest flying club and fly a jet powered RC plane. Have a good look at the turbine. Buy one do your tests on it. See how precise the machining was done it's shaft and fins. Even if the fins are slightly off balanced the entire thing will just explode in your face.
