Enrollment in higher education stands 20 lakh

DHAKA, Oct 13, 2012 (BSS) - Education at tertiary level is gaining momentum in the country as enrollment stands at almost 20 lakhs.
"If quality could be ensured among the huge graduating students, they would be able to change the country's status," University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Dr. A K Azad Chowdhury told a workshop on 'Self Assessment Methodology and Tools' in the UGC auditorium.
Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) organized the workshop with UGC Member Professor Dr M Muhibur Rahman in the chair, a UGC press release said today.
Prof Azad said the present state of higher education attainment is only comparable to that of China, India and Indonesia.
He called for developing self-assessment system in the universities and establishing accreditation council to ensure quality in higher education.
Vice-Chancellors of different public universities including Professor Dr. Abdus Sobhan, Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University Professor Dr. Rafiqul Haque, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Dr. Syed Sakhawat Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Potuakhali Science and Technology University and Professor Md. Ruhul Amin, Vice- Chancellor and Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University participated at the workshop.
