Hyderabad—Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that the present energy crisis is the result of anti-people policy of previous government of Pakistan Muslim League (N) which rejected the Keti Bandar-Thar Coal Project in 1996 and caused heavy losses to the nation and the country besides the energy crisis. The negative propaganda of PML (N) against the central leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party is a conspiracy against the government and proved that PML (N) leadership has no programme of serving the masses except derailing the democracy.

The Speaker Sindh Assembly expressed these remarks while addressing a news conference here at the Circuit House on Saturday evening. He said that if the PML(N) government had continued the Keti Bandar- Thar Coal Project initiated by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the country at present would have had acquired the ability of producing six to eleven thousand megawatts electricity, which would have not only been sufficient for the country’s requirements, but would have also facilitated its export to other countries. He said that when Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif preferred to go in self exile in Saudi Arabia instead of facing crisis in the homeland, he never demanded mid-term elections in the country.

The Speaker Sindh Assembly said that in February 2008 general elections, the PML (N) received defeat in the entire country, but in Punjab, it formed the provincial government by adopting “Lotacracy” with the support of the so-called forward block of PML (Q). Nisar Khuhro termed the call of rally by Muttahida Qaumi Movement in Karachi to expose the conspiracy against democracy as a timely decision and said that MQM believed in democracy therefore it gave a call for a rally.

Responding to a question about local government system, the Speaker Sindh Assembly said that the local government systems introduced by General Zia-ul-Haq in 1979 and later by General Pervez Musharraf were full with errors and in light of this fact the PPP and its allied parties agreed to bring a new local government system by removing errors in the previous Ordinance. About extension in the Ordinance promulgated by the Sindh Governor, the Speaker said that the decision will be taken in accordance with the Constitution and law and whatever decision will be made by the members of the Assembly, the same would be implemented in letter and spirit.
