The Russian supremo ordered the deployment of soldiers from his fearsome Spetsnaz unit to root out and eliminate packs of fleeing jihadis.

A battalion of elite paratroopers also ghosted into the war-torn country this week as Putin ramps up his assault on the Islamist fanatics and rebel forces fighting to topple dictator Bashar al-Assad.

The deployment of the Spetsnaz - the elite of the elite in Russia's army who have to undergo a gruelling training programme to earn their stripes - is the latest example of the megalomaniac leader's ruthless determination to shore up the rule of his close ally.

It is especially significant because many of the men have a deep hatred of jihadis from their time fighting in Chechnya's bloody civil war, when Islamist fanatics battling for independence carried out frequent atrocities against Russian citizens.

The Spetsnaz are Russia's most elite killers
Amongst the world's most efficient killers, they will now be tasked with mercilessly hunting down and slaying ISIS fighters and are also expected to play a role rooting out terrorist strongholds to be targeted by Russian bombers.

The move comes after it emerged that Putin is set to send 150,000 troops to Syria to wipe out the evil hate group once and for all.

His jets have waged a merciless bombing campaign against the jihadis in recent weeks, blitzing more than 50 facilities including a key command centre and a suicide belt factory.

They are extremely aggressive and highly trained

A military source told the Mirror: “They are extremely aggressive and highly trained.

“They are there to mop up after air strikes, call in air strikes, go on extremely covert missions against rebels and ultimately wipe them out.

“And they will not be as accountable as British or US special forces. They are there for one reason, to wipe out anyone threatening Assad. By any means. And by doing that they will be consolidating Russia’s position on the Med and in the Middle East.”

Putin has vowed to wipe out ISIS in Syria
It is believed that ISIS has already suffered crushing losses due to airstrikes and defections, with a leading terror expert telling Express.co.uk that they are now so weakened they could be defeated in a matter of hours.

Putin began his aerial assault in Syria last week, with Russia launching dozens of airstrikes against ISIS and "other terrorist groups".

Putin's bombers have waged a merciless campaign against the jihadis

Russian bombers have obliterated a command centre and a suicide belt factory
However, Western leaders have reacted furiously to the intervention after intelligence suggested that hardly any of the raids have been targeted against ISIS.

Putin is keen to shore up the rule of brutal dictator al-Assad, a long time ally whose power is threatened by rebel pro-democracy groups including the Free Syrian Army.

These are actually for asad's support against freedom fighters not to fight isis mainly. Hypocrite roosi

Thats more or less it and the more assad stays in power the more the isis ideology spreads

We have seen the same mindless military intervention since the 80's and out of the Mujahadeen came Taliban and AQ, then al shabab, AQ in iraq, Isis, boko haram and more

.
Even though I fully support Putin's move to target ISIS, I think may be Russia is being sucked into another Afghanistan. Putin is backing a regime which is being opposed by a sizable portion of Syrian population. Hope i am wrong but if NATO indeed decides to teach Russia a lesson, they will not find a better place.

Spetsnaz are dehumanised killing machines, its more like ISIS in uniform. These bastards used to tie up Afghan children & throw them in the water so they would drown each other. Another favorite tactic of Spetsnaz in Afghanistan was to round up kids after wransacking a village, tie them in a pile & burn them alive with flame throweres.

Just because they are going to fight ISIS doesn't hide the fact that this organization has war crimes on its hands.

cia propaganda surely.

war crimes are what the western bloc does... whether it was in the korea war or in invading afghanistan in the 80's or killing 150,000+ libyans between 2011 and 2012.

Putin is backing a regime which is being opposed by a sizable portion of Syrian population.

says who?? amnesty international?? angelina jolie?? erdogan?? the qatari emir?? cameron??

why should anyone listen to their lies??

Thats more or less it and the more assad stays in power the more the isis ideology spreads

that's a ridiculous assessment.

ussr went into afghanistan to protect a comrade socialist system which was under threat of terrorist-supported regime-change by the cia.

russia sadly did not send in military help in case of iraq in 2003 and libya in 2011... nevertheless, it is good that russia did it now in syria.

and boko haram, al-shabaab, jemah islamiya etc are all outputs of the south asian tableeghi jamaat and ably assisted by western intel.

the syrian government and the patriotic syrian people know better than us on pdf... they have no objections to russian help, including by spetnaz.

the syrian government in 2011 itself said that it is fighting for the world.

“And they will not be as accountable as British or US special forces.

what rubbish !!

does one have to ignore what western special forces ( including american ) did in libya in 2011??

point me to some literature where it's been documented/claimed by people on the ground, whistle-blowers or enemy account.

links please.

heard the SAS were on the ground as well as the French, only allegations though, that's ho black ops work, in and out, nobody knows, everyone feels the effects.

Actually...it's all about mixed feelings...if Assad stays, the exodus to Europe might be stopped and the country can be stabilised . But at what price ? He's,in the end, just another dictator clobbering his people into submission. On top of that,i can't help but laugh at the propaganda of the magical Russian intervention that will kill all the jihadis in a few weeks.Come on ! This is a text book about a clusterfuck that will go on for years.....

I have the same feelings. One one hand I'm happy to see ISIS pigs blown to pieces but this war is far from over. I fear this war will engulf Jordan and Lebanon and its at risk of spreading all over Middle East resulting in more migrant crisis.
