An encounter broke out today between security forces and militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said.

After getting intelligence input about the presence of militants in Hef Shermal area of Shopian, a joint team of police and army began a search operation in the area.

During the operation, the hiding militants opened fire prompting retaliation from security forces, police said.

Firing was going on as the last reports came in, the police said, adding that no casuality has been reported so far.
