Woman wakes up after 28 YEARS in COMA – shouting name of son she saved from crash

A WOMAN has defied the odds and suddenly woken up after 28 years in a vegetative state despite doctors saying there was no hope.
Munira Abdulla, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was 32-years-old when she left completely unresponsive with a severe brain injury when a bus rammed into her car in 1991, after picking her son up from school.
In the years that followed after the accident, there were no signs she would ever recover.
But last year Ms Abdulla blew everyone away after she called out her son’s name, Omar Webair.
Miraculously, Omar escaped the crash relatively unscathed with just a bruise on his head, thanks to his mum cradling him during the impact...
He told The National: “She was making strange sounds and I kept calling the doctors to examine her, they said everything was normal.
“Then three days later I woke up to the sound of someone calling my name. It was her! She was calling my name, I was flying with joy; for years I have dreamt of this moment, and my name was the first word she said.”
His mother’s journey to recovery was a long one and she was jetted all over the world to be seen by experts.
She was transferred to a London hospital following the crash and Ms Abdulla was diagnosed as being in a minimally conscious state.
This meant she was unresponsive but could still feel pain.
She returned to the UAE where she was hospitalised again before being transferred to a German hospital in 2017 after the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed, offered to finance her treatment.
There she was treated with physiotherapy and drugs to improve her wakefulness and sleeping patterns – which Mr Webair said made his mother appear more responsive.
But when Mr Webair told German doctors he thought his mother might talk again, they said he was “running wild” with imagination.
Mr Webair added: “The reason I shared her story is to tell people not to lose hope on their loved ones; don’t consider them dead when they are in such a state.

“All those years the doctors told me she was a hopeless case, and that there was no point of the treatment I was seeking for her, but whenever in doubt I put myself in her place and did whatever I could to improve her condition.”
Ms Abdulla has returned to Abu Dhabi since regaining consciousness and continues to improve.
She can recite prayers from the Qu’ran, tell people when she’s in pain and even answer questions
