Election commission Ignores Blatant Bribery video & Statements by Ali Gillani & Maryam Nawaz

Every decent, law abiding Pakistani should be driven by a desire for vengeance for the corruption and looting that has been done over the course of several decades by various governments.

I don't see what the problem here is.

He has personal problems with the Sharif family it seems. Otherwise his party is as corrupt as his frenemies.

First of all, why would you assume that I am supporting any "thugs"? My loyalty lies with the constitution of Pakistan, as yours should too. Governments come and go, constitution and federation stays.

ECP has followed the law, Supreme Court has given an opinion, which in my view is not binding, if the government thinks ECP has done anything unconstitutional, they can go to SC for contempt of court proceedings.

My point is, the metric should be the same in judging all crisis. When PTI went alongwith PPP and put Sadiq Sanjrani on Senate Chairmanship, PTI supporters celebrated that. When Sadiq Sanjrani survived no-confidence motion, with no clear majority in support, PTI supporters celebrated it. So now today, when Yusuf Raza Gillani wins 5 extra votes, why is there so much cry?

Why didn't the Prime Minister press for open balloting when Sadiq Sanjrani was facing no-confidence motion?

My problem is with hypocrisy. I voted for PTI because the Prime Minister promised he'd never be all else. Now there's no difference between his government and the previous ones.

Excuse me!!

Constitution of Pakistan , Chapter II
184.

(3)Without prejudice to the provisions of Article 199, the Supreme Court shall, if it considers that a question of public importance with reference to the enforcement of any of the Fundamental Rights conferred by Chapter I of Part II is involved have the power to make an order of the nature mentioned in the said Article.

The hell it is binding on ECP. ECP didn't say they are not bind by the decision of the SCP. They said there is not enough time to implement it in this Senate Elections. Otherwise, what they were saying they cannot print 2000 odd votes in couple of days or introducing serial numbers or bar codes.

For heaven sake, you can stamp the serial numbers on pieces of paper by using the old system of seals and ink pad. it would take someone to stamp 2000 ballot papers in less than half an hour.

SCP has a right to provide explanations to any part of the Constitution of Pakistan. Once they have provided the explanation and clarification of any section of the Constitution of Pakistan, their explanation would become binding and becomes part of the constitution of Pakistan.

This Chief ECP is appointed by PMIk himself ...I think if government is objecting CEC should declare elections null and void and have fresh elections for senate ....any how it's independent institution and it's there choice
there was clear order from court to make election fair and use techonology as require.
So they did not use trace bar code and i dont buy this crap that they dont have time. In todays techonology.

I think there is a difference, if Imran and his team were empowered, things would start to shape up. The problem is that him and his team was systematically rendered useless by civilian establishment and of course his team also has in large part same people coming from same old political families.
I would suggest he goes out of government and take government once he get fully empowered team elected by pakistani population.

This is a valid point. But how do we ascertain that the Prime Minister is empowered?

He claims he is. But at the same time, his government is hanging on loose threads. He was always against large cabinets, and now he probably has the largest cabinet in our history.

There are two things. If the Prime Minister is not empowered, he should definitely go back to the ballot and come back with 2/3rd majority like PMLN did a few times, things didn't go right for them even then, but at least legislation would be smooth after that. Of course, if people of Pakistan still feel like voting for PTI.
the constitution is flawed. its not fit for purpose.

We can disagree with the constitution and that's why there's a way to amend it. But any citizen who says stuff like this for the constitution commits high treason, especially an Army officer. Constitution is what holds this country together, and this same piece of paper made Imran Khan the Prime Minister.
They should not investigate the horse trading in senate election ? 🙄

Neither should they investigate Maryams statement on elections ?

I mean, I agree, they should. Horse trading should be investigated but it should start from Sadiq Sanjrani's vote of no-confidence.

What did previous Ppp + Pmln governments tell the enemies of Pakistan?

the reason he has large cabinet because he has to keep his allies engaged. he does not hold clear majority. hence not really empowered.

If the election commission did something wrong or illegal, instead of attacking it and riling people up, Immy should put his money where his mouth is and file a judicial reference.

Whining about the election commission after losing one single election, and alleging that you lost because of corruption without sufficient evidence, all during a national address as PM is very unbecoming. If he's sincere, he'll take up the matter by reference. Bluster and outbursts are just immature and emotional displays.

the videos of Gillani's son trying to buy votes wasnt sufficient evidence?

Summary execution of the top corrupt/scum/traitors/SOB/MF etc. bureaucratese by burying them alive at the dumpsters is the only solution....

*The Ottoman SOP for corrupt officials while they were the Super Power: arrest them from their homes at the middle of night, execute them, hang their dead bodies for seven days at the public square for the maximum “viral”, and bury them at the graveyards for the unknown. During the reign of Yavuz Sultan Selim, the Hidmat-ul Haremain, it was a public curse: May you be the Sadrazam (PM) at the Sultan’s court! During his reign 9 Sadrazams lost their heads due to corruption, treachery, incompetency etc.

ECP itself is suffering from various corruption diseases. However, the most corrupted organ is the rotten judiciary. It is the guardian of all corrupted people. Any future attempt to overthrow the government will obviously originate from the judiciary. We better watch out.

Not until the matter is taken up by the relevant authorities, and evidence and statements are collected by the likes of FIA, and then decided upon by courts. IF that video is real and genuinely shows beyond any doubt that votes were brought, then I agree... ALL involved should be prosecuted (under whichever relevant law applies) for corruption and simultaneously disqualified from holding any office.

Until then the PM alleging the election was rigged against him is just an accusation, it is not the first or last time that people belonging to one party ignored the parliamentary whip and voted with the opposition. And it isn't the first time allegations of corruption or foul play have been made with regards to elections. In 2018 senate election, IK was not complaining at all when his candidate Chaudhry Sarwar was elected with more than expect share of seats, at the time his people described the defectors as having voted thus "zameer ke mutabiq".

the constitution is flawed. its not fit for purpose.

That was a bad quote from a guy who committed multiple acts of high treason, the quote itself is an example of his complete and utter disregard for the very document he and others of his institution swear their oaths to.

If you have criticisms of the constitution, mention those with some clarity instead. A constitution is not final, it can be amended quite a lot. IMO it's not too bad compared to the pieces of paper we had in the past. People only see bad in the constitution when some part of it stings their political ambitions or those of their parties, PMLN had no issue with Art 62/63 until their leader was removed using it, PTI had no issue with 18th amendment when they had KPK only, as soon as it limited their federal power, now suddenly it's a travesty. Same goes with IK supporters I've encountered who are by and large proponents of presidential system, when I press for specifics on why they prefer it over a parliamentary, the arguments are either very flimsy or non-existent.

Anyway, if you want to amend the constitution, go ahead and do it, you will need a lot of power in parliament, you can bring in a presidential system, you can remove 18th, you can increase tenure of PM IK etc. It's all possible, that is if you have the numbers in parliament.

The issue is the process of senate elections has always been tainted with corruption- its an open secret that votes are bought for money. Only someone naive if Pakistani political history would think that senate elections have ever been without corruption. Asif Ali Zaradri had openly challenged that he can buy votes - and boy what a game he played this time. No wonder Pakistan is like the way it is.

These are political matters and we don’t need to become pedantic so soon. Every political matter takes time, effort and momentum to become actionable in form of new laws, collection of evidence, court cases, etc. Take the panama case conclusion in SC, up till then the outreach from PTI was all political- ie NS is corrupt based on perception and circumstantial evidences etc. But the exact evidences and proofs were collected by a JIT and then followed multiple references in NAB which ended up in a conviction.
Election rigging is a reality in Pakistan - even current opposition narrative is also based on it.
Until then the PM alleging the election was rigged against him is just an accusation, it is not the first or last time that people belonging to one party ignored the parliamentary whip and voted with the opposition.
Please provide me one reason why would somebody from PTI would bother voting for an Asif Ali Zaradri backed candidate like Yusuf Raza Gilani, a shameful person who even stole a necklace denoted by Turk First lady for poor displaced people of Pakistan as a gift for his wife? I don’t need to quote any Verse from Quran about stealing from whats meant for charity and orphans now. Now they would do this against their party narrative and direction, against the oath they gave themselves to their party chairman, in such a large quantity for any other reason than a monetary one? If there was a candidate, whose political influence transcended beyond political lines (such as Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan), and there was an ideological dissension involved- then sure it may have been considered as “zameer ki awaz”. But really a convicted, disqualified and disgraced ex pm, who on record said in a bbc interview “why dont these poor people just leave the country if they are not happy?” ... he can only win votes that were not meant for him with corruption and bribery only, there is no other logical reason. I dont know about PMLN folks now, but Gilani has disgraced Pakistani nation internationally and atleast I remember how Pakistan was plundered during PPP time, so to see his return on back of corruption again is depressing, and I think that is where PM is as well. Now that is the political line being taken by PM, and thats what politicians do for a living - they do politics.

However on the other hand you can definitely believe that Ex PM Gilani won the seat fair and square, and his honorable personality overcame PTI MNAs vs the party line and IKs directions. You can definitely have that in your mind, after all Asif Zaradri is still not convicted of any wrong doing or murder or what ever. You can continue thinking that. You can think that what ever was discussed about corruption during senate elections in the recent SC proceedings is all fairy tale, then thats your prerogative. Others however may have a good sense of smelling the stench of corruption when it happens ...

Problem with Election Commision is, they were and have always been criminally negligent in this and other election duties. They were thoroughly grilled in the last SC proceedings as to why election commision, despite having all the constitutional powers finally does something about these corrupt practices who every single child in Pakistan is aware of. A way was provided to them by making these ballots traceable after voting, but in their high wisdom and display of no tolerance for corruption, decided to not apply it in this election and consider it for next election only ...
