EL/M-2052 AESA Bound for Tejas MK-1A will also be used on other fighter jets: HAL Chief

As far as I understand this 2052 radar is only for MK1A and Jaguar ( Since that was the condition put as perquisite ie atleast 2 fighters). Neighther M2000 nor Mig 29 will be upgraded with this radar. Also as per my chaiwala sources the one for MK1A will be upgraded 2052 (Not sure if its GaN) i.e. better range etc. what elta is trying is to make sure India do not look else where for Radar, infact what I heard is there might be joint dev with India's uttam.

You are spot on. The current upgrade will go on for 6 years. When will they go for such an extensive new upgrade?

i dint think the mk2's will get the 2052 as they are already beig upgraded. and you tak into account if the noce code can hold the aesa. yes aesa's are physically smaller than other less advanced radars but they have a moving arm do current iaf jets have large enough nose cones. also most of these jets are old and are being phased out.

Electronically scanned- It doesn't need to move at all- although some planes like Su30MKI/35 have It moving just to cover much larger area on the sides- or make the scan cone even larger-

Addition of AESA helps in better bombing ,

With ASRAAM and Honeywell engines, it ll serve for a long time.

Last jaguar was manufactured not long go.

Yes, superior tech addition will help Jaguar to perform its mission.

Airframe itself has its own life. You can change hole engine but cannt change frame.

Only 20 Jaguar!

Range reduce significantly due to incorporation of more powerfull engines.

My main point is whether this model will be relevant in future? Just imagine when this birds try to fly in sky filled with UCAVs, 5gen fighters and SAMs like LRSAM? Better to go with advanced models which will be better designed to serve future threats.

I think Honeywells main selling point is reduced fuel consumption with increased power, I didn't know range gets reduced, are you sure, range will be reduced ?
No one wants to old generation aircrafts in the force,
We are yet to replace mig27, mig21, mig23
Jaguar have to survive till then.

Israeli ELTA have offered to worked with India for its upgraded version of EL/M-2052 MMR.

Question is ..are Jaguars really worth AESA? Mirages and Mig-29s are different thing though.
For interleaved operation, SAR mapping, terrain guidance, terrain mapping, passive detection.
With NAV attack Jaguar could not only lodge dump gravity bomb accurately, but would be apple to fire glide bomb, cruise missile, radar guided bombs making it an effective ground attack bomber and strike fighter.

Don't know about your Chaiwala source, but for UTTAM its the BEL who can help with is GaN modules. ELTA had already offered to help India with the Joint development of the new upgraded Radar based on EL/M-2052. Israel could help India, in its algorithm at the MMR's backend.

Mig 23 and 27 are retired-

Jaguar has to serve for some time now- may be until AF has 100 or so Tejas mk2-

Mig-23 is Retired, but not Mig-27, which have been upgraded to MIg-27UPG but will be retired soon.
Jaguar can give its service upto 2030.

It certainly is a welcoming news, but I'm now much more interested in Russia's new Radio-optical phased array radar. This Photonic radar is futuristic.

I would love to see India get their hands on this tech.

Photonic Radar ?? Seriously I am suspectable to such radar, because as far as my information, there is no such stable radar till now, and the technology in the whole world is unstable and unmatture till now.

Ironic that Israeli's already transferred technology for the ELM-2052 radar to the Chinese, and its Chinese version is one of the three AESA radars (two Chinese & one Western) under consideration for the JF-17 Blk-3.

Doesn't seem like a wise decision by InAF to opt for this particular radar on 3 platforms when its technology is already transferred/ leaked. Vise versa if MK-2 flies before the Blk-3 then PAF should choose the alternative AESA.

Also another issue HAL would have more problems, the ELM-2032 on the current Tejas is 100KG with 3KVA power, the ELM 2052 is 180KG with 10KVA power. HAL already has promised to shed net 1000KG on the MK-2 plus the added power requirements on aircraft power system. HAL has big issues to work with that can cause potential delays..

Chinese KJ-7 is the Russian Zhuk Aesa radar, with Chinese Antenna.

Many components and parts of the MK-1 specially the landing gear is over engineered, for safety reasons, which could be shead lot of load, actually the problem of the E</M2052 is not the wt. rather the heat generated. Work on its cryogenic cooling have been started, and in advance stage, so don't worry about that.

Increased fuel efficiency doesnt mean lower fuel consumption! If earlier engine was giving 100 power on 100 unit fuel and new engine gives 150 power on 110 unit. That also mean better efficiency.
Although I am not certain about JAguar's fuel efficiency but looking at upgrades, all new equipments are power hungry compare to original equipment.
Yes, Jaguar will serve for prity long time from now.

I think role of mig23 is being given to hawk trainers

Hawk cannt replace mig23. Mig23 was epic if its time. Probably su30 was good option. Hawk, IMO, help IAF to retire older Mig21.

Isreal and India are currently working together on a upgraded model of 2052. All Tejas will be built using these radars. 60% of these radars will be built in India.

There was one condition on this agreement, that IAF will install upgraded ELTA’S 2052 to 1 more type of jet in IAF’S inventory. Over 200 ELTA radars are expected.

Expecting upgraded version of 2052 by end of this year or the next year!!!!!!!!!!!

I think mig 23 UM was used a strainer for mig 27

So the training is now in hawk I suppose, but not sure.

Mig 21 is also used as trainers, so definitely yes
