Egypt's grand imam calls polygamy an 'injustice

I think the Grand Imam has been pressured by feminist US government to make this statement...What do you guys think?
The Arab Genius reached its highest peak during polygamy..the capable men were producing a multitude of children through polygamy and the incapable men were being selected out of the gene pool by being denied women..This is why Arabs could rule from Spain to Pakistan...

in west, the girl friend concept and kids out of wedlock is a prime example of not giving rights to woman by not marrying them, and leaving the girls abused, scared and to fend for themselves..
The cleric should look into it before even saying anything like this.

CAIRO:

The grand imam of Egypt’s famed Al-Azhar institution, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, has described polygamy as an “injustice” for women.

“Polygamy is often an injustice to women and children,” said the influential cleric, in quotes published on Twitter late on Friday by Al-Azhar, Sunni Islam’s most prestigious seat of learning.

The practice is the result of “a lack of understanding of the Quran and the tradition of the Prophet,” he added.

Tayeb also addressed the issue in a weekly Friday television show, telling viewers: “Those who say that marriage must be polygamous are all wrong”.

He added the Koran says that in order for a Muslim man to have multiple wives, he “must obey conditions of fairness – and if there is not fairness it is forbidden to have multiple wives”.

After the grand imam’s comments sparked fervent debate on social media, Al-Azhar on Saturday clarified that he did not call for polygamy to be banned.

In his Friday comments, Tayeb called more broadly for the way women’s issues are addressed to be revamped.

“Women represent half of society, if we don’t care for them it’s like we are walking on one foot only,” he said in the remarks published on Twitter.

The grand imam’s approach was welcomed by Egypt’s National Council for Women.

“The Muslim religion honours women – it brought justice and numerous rights which didn’t exist before,” said the Council’s president Maya Morsi.

It is clear that the person in question, doesn't have any idea what he is talking about. He is also, shamelessly aware, that is statement comes into direct conflict with the Truth. And we all ought to know that the Truth triumphs every time.

That is true, that right is as khula of islam if married.
let me be clear, islam gives rights to women before they consummate a relationship. What cleric is saying can promote concept of girlfriend and boyfriend and secret relationships.. he should promote marriage if a man can afford and equally distribute wealth..

Brothers, no debate needed on this topic...

Yes polygamy is allowed, only if the husband treats his wives equally. That's about it...
Not equally but with fairness . those are very different issues.

This Egyptian Imam has clearly lost all sense of logic. As he directly contradicts him being a Muslim. Since his declaration brings the question, who or what authority he has when the Prophet of Islam, Khatim-un-Nabiyyen, Sarkar-ul-Qaunain, Muhammad Alaihi Salaat-u-Wassalam had more than one wife at one time.

Surely the Hadith has come true where it is stated that in the Age of Fitna, chaos and anarchy will be prevalent and the worst amongst us (Muslims) will be the religious scholarship. The Iman of Kaabah who claimed (allegedly) that Muslim countries ought to recognize the illegal state of israel, this Egyptian Imam and the Pakistani diesel-mullah (the fat lard), are some of the best examples that prove the Hadith come true!!

The problem is that people read something like this and automatically get the wrong impression for some strange reason. Not sure how many times it was referred to as a call from the Grand Imam to ban the practice. That was hardly what he was eluding to.

Also, one must understand the basis of the comment. What triggered it and what brought about the topic at the Friday sermon? It's the fact that it is happening too often for the wrong reasons. There were specific reasons the Prophet (sAws) practiced the act and the reasons to be able to are specifically written and addressed in the Qur'an. The problem is that many have deviated from these specific rules of the practice and are doing it under the guise of its legality in Islam for selfish reasons which then bring about these injustices to these women and possibly eventual children to whom he eluded to. That is what he was describing. He wasn't being influenced by some foreign entity or by Sisi or any of the crazy things that have been mentioned. It was purely a call to become aware of the practice as it relates to the fairness of the women and children involved and how it affects them the wrong way because it was being done based on the wrong reasons.

People miss this point which is was what he was making, or trying to make. I don't want to list the reason that many men in just Egypt will find to marry 2, 3 or even 4 women and they're incredibly selfish reasons for the men which have nothing to do with the reason the Prophet (sAws) did it. That is the ESSENTIAL element that gets lots in this entire debate.

I don't think it gets any simpler than that explanation to understand what he was saying. How difficult was that to understand and where is the controversial banning or "unislamicness" in what he was saying?

Tayeb also addressed the issue in a weekly Friday television show, telling viewers: “Those who say that marriage must be polygamous are all wrong”.

I think that's pretty much very clear and easy to understand, right? Apparently there are some jumblings out there who claim that every marriage should be to as many women as possible. Yep, people are crazy and they do say these things and he's correcting that ignorance, nothing wrong with that.

He added the Koran says that in order for a Muslim man to have multiple wives, he “must obey conditions of fairness – and if there is not fairness it is forbidden to have multiple wives”.

I think we can all understand that what he's saying here is pretty much the correct way across the board.

My goodness, another logical comment that actually makes a lot of sense, how incredible! So what's the problem?
