Egypt receives three new Rafale fighter jets from France

Egypt’s armed forces will receive on Thursday three new Rafale fighter jets as part of the second batch Egypt will receive from France.

Armed forces will celebrate the fighter jets arrival with a fly over Cairo, Giza and 6 October City. The new Rafale fighters will take part in the show.

A military source said the fighters represent progress in the armed forces’ ability to enhance security and stability in the Middle East.

Last February, France signed its first export contract for Rafale fighter jets, with Egypt agreeing to buy 24 of the warplanes.

Does it come with any powerful BVR? or is it just another toothless plane for practice shooting for IDAF--if it comes to it.

There's nothing written down but the expectation is that there will only be one follow up order. The Russians will get the bulk of future EAF deals.

What weapon packages does it come with?

Does it come with any powerful BVR? or is it just another toothless plane for practice shooting for IAF--if it comes to it.

MICA IR and EM air to air missiles, AASM Hammer guided munitions, and Black Shaheen cruise missiles is the reported weapons package. Also, the next generation TALIOS targeting and recce pod.

We will have to wait out for the MBDA Meteor since it will enter service in 2018. Whether it will be available to the EAF is still unknown.

Smart move considering that Egypt's enemies are right now more to do with hidden terrorists on the ground rather than any other country.

Though we are yet to discuss our Rafale terms for finalization, Egypt and India will have fleet commonalities once again after a long gap since president Mubarak's time.
