The Egyptian Air Force is investing in modernizing the avionics for its fleet of Beechcraft 1900C aircraft for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, which will allow the aircraft to fly in civilian airspace over Europe, Africa and southwestern Asia.

The US Army Contracting Command is looking for resources capable of supporting and providing modifications to modernize a total of six Beechcraft aircraft.

Egypt operates around 10 1900C / D aircraft, of which Raytheon has modified at least four of them for ISR operations.

It will have to provide improvements and a new avionics suite that is expected to install threshold requirements in order for the aircraft to fly in the civilian airspace required by flight rules (ISR).

As indicated in the US Army petition, new equipment for the aircraft will include VHF and HF communications radios, transceiver equipment with EHS and ADS-B: Enhanced Surveillance (EHS) and Certified Automatic Surveillance - broadcast-capable transmitters and receivers (ADS-B) capable of Meet the Executive Regulation of the European Commission (EU) 1207/2011.

Other equipment includes global navigation satellite systems equipped with SBAS, such as the American Global Positioning System (GPS) or European Galileo. These indicators determine the position and speed of the aircraft around the world with a high degree of accuracy using signals transmitted from a constellation of medium-orbit satellites.

It also includes traffic warning, collision avoidance and terrain awareness systems.

The army announcement did not provide information on when the improvements were expected to start or complete, indicating only that the requested sources had a deadline of February 5, 2021.

The original news from the American site adds some developments, including:

New Autopilot: The autopilot on these aircraft is outdated, and there may be a risk of component obsolescence.

New Cockpit: The glass cockpit consists of multiple electronic LCD displays that provide aircraft instrumentation and navigation information to cabin crew in an easier-to-read manner.

Satellite Communications (SATCOM): Satcom is a BLOS communication system for ATC with high sound quality for HF broadcasting. ATC requires some form of BLOS communication when flying in remote areas outside of the VHF range. HF is acceptable, but SATCOM is generally preferred.

Any upgrade for e2c fleet?
Or f16s?

Nice upgrade. Might as well use up the aid money for things like this. Upgrades to many of the existing systems instead of more new F-16s without AIM-120s and AIM-9s. The Russian R-73s although not as great as the 9x are still excellent as well as the MICAs on the Rafales, so that's a good thing. Even have MLUs on the F-16s which supposedly are on the schedule as well according to the US ambassador in Egypt.

which will allow the aircraft to fly in civilian airspace over Europe, Africa and southwestern Asia.

Now that's pretty interesting. This is part of that contract and commitment to work with NATO while at the same time NOT be part of NATO, or as another member on a Russian forum calls it HATO lol.

They were flying ISR missions with Beechcraft all over the Sinai/Gaza and all the way down the border with Israel and north into Jordan prior to operation Sinai 2018. They were gathering a lot of intel at the time and this will only make things much better to produce a wonderful addition to their existing library.

I find the NATO part interesting.. Egypt is partner but never knew it was that close to NATO. Speaking of Russia they are beefing up now as we speak and complaining about NATO training on it's border and calling even on new recruits the statements coming from Moscow yesterday were damning. I wouldn't be surprised if a war broke out in the Baltic areas between Russia and Europe dragging NATO in sometime in 2030s but it is unlikely but still I think it could happen you never know and NATO also wanna beef up during the 2030s according to a report..

I don't know man but it feels like we have entered in a point of no-return in regards to the baltic areas and Ukraine and it is only a matter of time when these frontlines ignite it could be 10 years from now or 30 yrs from now but it will happen latest around 2050s

This was just about a year ago when they decided to do this. I believe it has a lot to do with the enormous ties and treaties with Greece and mostly naval aspects to control a lot of the illegal migrations from Libya. And once the two Mistrals were purchased and France became a lot closer to Egypt, that pushed the role of Egypt to get more involved in strictly naval securities, which also benefits Egypt in many ways.

Yeah I heard and they don't mess around. Let's hope cooler heads prevail but honestly, I don't blame them one bit. I can only imagine if that kind of thing happened on the US coast line and what the US & Canadian military would do. Plus they're developing all kinds of crazy new and deadly weapons.

There was an article or a tweet I forget which, but it mentioned a US general claiming the US alone, not NATO but under NATO have flown something like 110 times more missions in that area just in the last year. If I was Russia, I would see that as a very dangerous threat.

I think the world is ready for the end of times, TBH. A huge asteroid to wipe everything out and we don't have to worry about nuclear downfall. lol, kidding of course.

People assume Greece has any sort of importance to NATO or EU in that matter and if they could get rid of Greece they would have so it was not because of them but I think they did that because due to other interests in the future so that Egypt joins to their bloc instead of the new china-Russia marriage if it occurs and they don't want a potential Russia-China bloc add a strong country like Egypt to their ranks that easily

But that has nothing to do with why Egypt has a great relationship with Greece and considers it a vital and important strategic partner in the Mediterranean. Egypt is very limited with in its affiliation with NATO and so that hardly factors into the equation. Most of the relationship is based on the maritime zones and defense of those zones with the 3rd party of Cyprus. This has been a very long-standing relationship that has only evolved into a much larger and stronger one that includes military cooperation. We have no issues with this partnership, as a matter of fact, we find it beneficial on many levels and not every relationship needs to be beneficial on a materialistic level.

Oh I think it's more than that. Despite Greece suffering a tremendous downfall economically, it is still a very vital component of NATO and has been that way since the creation of that league of nations. I don't disagree with you that the thought of losing it to Russia is present, but if you look at all the military equipment it has and all the pacts and agreements it has signed with not only NATO but with the US of which the majority of its equipment is from, the idea that Greece would even contemplate switching over is hardly a matter of consideration IMO. They're in the process of acquiring quite a bit of new equipment from the US as well as used Rafales from France. They're there to stay, no question about it and most of all, they haven't betrayed us whatsoever like the dog that rules Turkey. Betrayal is very difficult to turn around and regain full trust.
