Egypt again shuts down its Rafah border with Gaza

Egyptian authorities have again shut down the Rafah crossing with Gaza after reopening it briefly to allow just a few Palestinians injured in the violent Israeli military onslaught in the impoverished enclave to seek treatment.
"We received orders from the Egyptian authorities to close the Rafah crossing after we partially opened it on Thursday," spokesman for Gaza's interior ministry Iyad al-Buzm said on Friday as cited in a report by Ma'an news agency.

The ministry strongly condemned the decision by Egypt as it had prepared buses and ambulances to take wounded Palestinians to the crossing.

Only 11 Palestinians were able to cross Rafah on Thursday when Egypt opened the crossing, al-Buzm added.

Over 600 Palestinians have been injured in persisting Israeli aggression on Gaza with hospitals in the besieged enclave struggling to cope with the large number of casualties.

During Israel's 2012 assault on Gaza, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi condemned "Israeli aggression" and sent his prime minister to Gaza in a show of support for the Palestinians.

Since the Egyptian military, led by then army chief and now President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, overthrew Morsi in July 2013, Cairo has cracked down on supply tunnels to the Gaza Strip and has accused Hamas of aiding the Muslim Brotherhood in militant attacks inside Egypt, an allegation fiercely denied by the Palestinian resistance movement.

I fail to see the logic in closing the border for humanitarian reasons.

If the Palestinians are as bad as said, fine don't let the healthy ones in - wait till they're shot at, injured, maimed, decapitated or whatever. But what for the currently injured?

All these cowardly neighbours; Egypt, Jordan know is how to use their armies for local suppression!

Do we not have problems with Afghans? Do we not know how badly we have and are being stabbed in the back by then? But we still put ourselves out for them, we are still the largest recipient of refugees in the world.

Surely, there must be some humanity and decency left in Palestine's neighbours?

OP, Egypt is opening the border Saturday and already let humanitarian aid into Gaza. Tomorrow they will allow medicine supplies into Gaza as well.

the filth called hamas was installed into power gaza in 2007 by israel, usa and britain. the hamas is a branch of the "muslim" brotherhood ( ikhwaan ul "muslimoon" ) group from egypt... and the ikhwaan dogs are now in egypt jails or dead. so all the egypt military is doing is using the opportunity to keep hamas dogs out of egypt.
