Economy to grow by 7.4pc: Muhith

No it's the haste with which he went to inequality of income, he has a habit of posting spitefully about BD. At least others like idune and alzakir are open about their political bias, this man opens dozens of threads like he is providing impartial news, although he's anything but.
Yes there's inequality, majority were poor before, now some are less poor - thats normal and it will evolve. Its also true that thousands are employed in industry now, and we have a minimum wage too. Cherry picking a news article to undermine all that is mischievous and misleading.
Agreed.
Grow up kid.Sitting 7 oceans and numerous continents apart, you all seem to jump at the slightest news about the growth of our overall economy.
A privileged person driving a Lamborghini,Porsche 7 series, Ferrari, hardly makes any impact on our overall economy,as next him on the same street is a disabled underprivileged Rickshaw puller toiling 12 hours a day, just to earn bread for his family members living in the filthy sub urban unhygienic slums.
So are the toiling females breaking bricks with their bare hands for your Luxurious Villas. Underage children employed in hazardous life threatening chores, just to earn a living ,little girls collecting garbage to be sold as reusable items. The list goes on and on, and a never ending one.
Now talking with a loud mouth about Poverty reduction???
Moreover,we never fought the war in 1971, for such inequality,Kid.

There are and there have always been. But if the number is decreasing then it's a good thing. And the number is indeed decreasing.

For what did you fight in 1971? Did you think everyone would be rich after the war?

Kid, do you know the 6 and later 11 points of BB? All related to economic equal distribution of wealth and resources between the 2 Wings,Economic autonomy and equal opportunity of jobs in all branches of the Government,in other words sustainable economic emancipation for all.
The wealth concentrated by the then 22 families, now seems to have broadened to 22,000 families.
Looting and plundering of national resources has unfortunately become the norm of the day,we never fought for such a war. Sitting beside me right now is another Valiant FF, he is amused by reading your ludicrous post and is eager to meet you.

Nope, but he has kind of a point to be honest. Concentration of wealth to few families/persons are bad news for economy and the country in long run. Though I blame this situation to the top to bottom corrupt government and an extremely weak revenue collection system.

Well yes. We should have done better than what we did in last 45 years.

But it cannot be denied that number of people in living in poverty has gone down significantly in last 15 years. In a capitalist system it's usually rich getting richer and poor staying poor.
Concentration of wealth to few families/persons
Its the same no matter where you go. If you look at gini coefficient then you'll see that BD hasn't done that bad.

Okay I can agree with pretty much all of it. But how does that invalidate 7.4% growth target? And according to all estimates poverty in Bangladesh is going down. Income inequality is hardly related to poverty. US would be among the top in terms of income inequality. But how many in US are in poverty?

You have watched wealth hoarded by the elites in the olden days, what did you do in 40 years? Now you say, wealth has gone from 22 families to 22000 and you decide its time to complain?

In fact our population has trebled in this time, yet access to health, literacy rates and employment levels are better than ever.

In this context, to talk about wealth inequality like it's a particular BangladeshI problem is premature if not plain mischievous.

I would advise you to make unbiased, fair contributions in future, as otherwise your input is pointless.

Bro no one on Earth has solved this, USA, UK have huge wealth inequality problems. In fact, the top 1% in the world own the majority wealth. So he is making a moot point.

Honest introspection is crucial for a country, but some posters are interested only in point scoring.

This is a bad thing?

People are throwing around "concentrated" and "few" and "long run" with no attempt at definitions/standards.

Can everyone please post a few numbers of what delineates all of this in their analysis (hard %, no., years etc).

If you look at gini coefficient then you'll see that BD hasn't done that bad.

Gini is completely flawed measure for a developing country to begin with. Only valid for comparing developed countries to be honest....I would say its invalid for even China today.

BD should give next to no priority for "income inequality" which is really part and parcel of early growth trajectory for a low production society. Better focus is on improving the institutions, making entrepreneurship (Esp credit access and basic infra) and foreign investment easy and better monitoring/reform (how to achieve more prevalence but minimum intensity) of liquidity controls (taxes etc).....and making the govt imprint (and thus systematic corruption envelope) as small as possible. People should largely be left alone to run the 90% of production (which needs free market atmosphere to flourish whatever guise it takes in an inherited situation).

Remaining 10% where market failure exists (education, health, defence etc) can be a proving ground for each govt. Right now it has its grubby tentacles well past the 10% though (a somewhat regional problem), meaning from the get go the 10% important stuff performance is hamstrung because there is no proper focus (combined with the overreach into the 90% being hugely detrimental to that sector). I use the 90/10 as figure of speech, I don't know the precise ratio of course.

Poverty in mind, soul and body is the eternal fate of BD.
At least for now we eat better and live better than the Indians. Watch your own backyard instead of becoming burned heart when you read any news on BD progress. Do not follow the Indian false flagger @idune.

Read the basic pillars enshrined in our Constitution.
The Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is the constitutional document of Bangladesh. It was adopted on 16 December 1972.
It provides the framework of the Bangladeshi republic with a parliamentary government, fundamental human rights and freedoms, an independent judiciary, democratic local government and a national bureaucracy.
The constitution includes references to socialism, Islam, secular democracy and the Bengali language.
Though I am not a ardent followers of Socialism, free Market economy is a different issue here, however, as till date,no system has so far not been proved to be perfect, Bangladesh has never been an Capitalist one,nor is India our role model, even for the sake of comparison.

The main focal point here was growth of our Economy vis a vis and alleviation of poverty. I still stand steadfast on my earlier observations, unless proven otherwise, and when Economy matters, your so called nationalistic jargons are irrelevant and shedding Crocodile tears only.

So you get called out (still unable to answer the nominal query), have no answer and resort to crying about whatever BBS spouts to you that inevitably gets slapped down whenever there is neutral 3rd party analysis (like Economist liveability index).

People that truly live better and eat better dont BEG and FLEE for the simplest medical treatment to dada in the millions, that too when dada kills such people at the border at same time. What kind of desperation of "living and eating" better prompts this? Have you lot an iota of shame? Sitting in Japan illegally and throwing BBS BS at me to try feel better, I guess not....disgusting fellow. If an LDC does not "progress" or even reverses given its pitiful low base, thats the news...not any xyz progress it brays hoping others pay attention and believe it....because who cares...you are so behind that its the default that should be happening even with complete anarchy.

Do we need to depend upon BBS to know that our standard of living is better than the Indians, we have better hygienic atmosphere, people are more hard working and are hired by many countries and so on. Some people with money go to India and Singapore to get better medical treatment. But, it also proves that BD better off people are not like Indian misers. They are willing to spend money on treatment, tourism and shopping. This is why Indian economy is standing on its feet. You must thank BD instead of making personal attacks.

Ungrateful peoples...

We have been doing good despite all those decades of political turmoils. I dont care those 6 percent,7 percent. Those are just assumption and Indicators which greatly vary of course. People gets 3 times meal, save some money, dont have to borrow for their day to day life meanings, have a roof in their head be it of bamboo made or have the capability to rent a flat/room/ghar and proper sanitation, then we are doing just fine and that means our economy is doing well.
