Iran Khodro, the giant Iranian automaker, is setting up the venture with Azerbaijan’s Azeurocar to jointly produce four Iranian car brands of Dena, Rana, Soren and Samand.

The joint venture’s annual capacity is estimated to stand at about 10,000 cars.

MoU on Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline signed with SOCAR

Croatia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the construction of the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) with Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR, Croatian media reported.

The signing took place within the Dubrovnik Forum on August 26.

IAP pipeline with a length of around 516 kilometers will be connected to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is designed to transport Azerbaijani gas to Europe, in the city of Fier in Albania.

The IAP will pass through Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and end in the city of Split in Croatia, where it will be connected to the existing gas distribution system of the country. From Croatia, the gas can go to Hungary and other countries of Central and Western Europe.

The capacity of the IAP will be five billion cubic meters per year. The pipeline will be capable of carrying out reverse supply.

TAP has already signed memoranda of understanding and cooperation with the developers of this project, in particular, with Plinacro natural gas transmission system operator of Croatia, BH-Gas company of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Geoplin Plinovodi company of Slovenia.

Moreover, there has been created a ТАР and IAP working group which regularly holds meetings in order to synchronize the time of implementation of both projects and agree on the technical issues of connection.

Supercomputer necessary for Azerbaijan to find new oil and gas fields to become a world leader by new hydrocarbons by 2030

Today the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) debriefed a report of Director of the Institute of Oil and Gas Ibrahim Guliyev which titled “Oil and Gas Science 2030: looking into the future”.

ANAS informed that Guliyev raised an issue on adaptation of modern geophysical survey techniques to find oil and gas fields at the depth of 7-14 km.

“One of the important tasks is conducting fundamental studies to explore intellectual oil and gas fields. To solve problems in this sphere it is necessary to apply new methods based on supercomputer technologies,” Guliyev reported.

He also raised an issue on exploration of alternative resources of gas hydrates and hydrocarbons – inrefinable crude, light tight oil and gas dissolved in groundwater gases.

“By 2030 Azerbaijan can become a world leader by using completely new hydrocarbons. For several years, scientists of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics and German colleagues conduct long-term thermal monitoring of hydrocarbon gases released from mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan. The results will be the basis for the establishment of renewable hydrocarbon system,” Guliyev said.

According to him, the Institute of Oil and Gas is already forecasting the development of various industries, including making and testing mathematical models of dynamics of oil and gas prices changing with due regard to market requirement.

By the end of the report, ANAS Presidium decided to approve the geophysical and geochemical exploration of oil fields at great depths, the fundamental study of the intellectual fields, the scientific study of fields of hydrocarbon gases, and the recovery of oil and gas reserves at the mud volcanoes as the priority areas for the Institute. The priority areas also include the geological and chemical study of light tight oil and gas, the study of economics of the oil industry and geoecological problems.

It should be mentioned that BP Company started applying hydraulic fracturing on the Azerbaijani field Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli long before the shale revolution in the USA.
