Not a rightful act by the police... Ramadan is a private matter between Allah SWT and the person. Anyway, it has been made obligatory on fellow Muslims who are not fasting because of a valid reason - not to eat infront of the people who are fasting... and Pakistan being considered an Islamic country, you could get in trouble for that if you ate in public place in Ramadan... you should go in Hiding if you've to.

Having spent time in the middle east I've wondered too, how does someone else eating violate your right to fast, or worse, weaken your faith in your religious practices?

When does self restraint involve forcing others? Does anyone see the paradox? Or am I opening the pandoras box?

On Durga Puja , if I am not mistaken, buffalo beef is actually served in many temples of West Bengal after sacrifice.

Police constables did good. Fasting is a personal matter of everyone and no one can be or should be forced to fast but eating and drinking in public areas during Ramazan should be banned for adults. The same law exists in several other Muslim countries as well such as Bahrain.
