Hmf. Everybody is obsessed with islam in these days. In the 90s very few Europeans knew details about islam. For them it was just another "third-world" religion like Boudhism or hinduism. Now all people have opinions about it. The fact that the west shows so much fear of islam will cause the quite opposite effect. Right now you polarize western public(not muslims...)regarding islamic religion and that will not end well

Tends to happen when people blow up next to you shouting Allah Akbar.

Most Europeans don't want a total ban on mosques or the wholesale expulsion of muslims but the current political elite,the mainstream one,doesn't offer a middle solution so people are forced to look to the extreme right for one.I mean,was it all that hard to not allow an entire horde from the ME,Central Asia,Africa to waltz through the borders ? Was it hard to krank down on extremist preachers ? No.Yet,nobody cares....

If this was the case in a middle eastern dictatorship I would understand it....I thought you were democracies....Muslims do not have any influence over any western country whatsoever....then why are so afraid to crank down on extremists...I know Bangladesh does a way better job at this...and it is a Muslim country....why do you need right wing extremist voices to counter Muslim extremist voices? Why does the beacon of democracy on earth not have a proper moderate proactive group that represents the people?

If this was the case in a middle eastern dictatorship I would understand it....I thought you were democracies....Muslims do not have any influence over any western country whatsoever....then why are so afraid to crank down on extremists...I know Bangladesh does a way better job at this...and it is a Muslim country....why do you need right wing extremist voices to counter Muslim extremist voices? Pakistan was created on two nation theory which argues that muslims and non muslims are two nation and can not survive as a single entity.

I wonder why people who subscribe to such mentality cries foul when some nation ban anything which may give rise to Islam. Actually what that nation is doing is defending itself from bifurcation in future.

Don't know.Public opinion would support a crackdown,would support the respect of our borders.The politicians just don't care ,so we look to the extreme right wing because they promise to get stuff done,even if we don't agree with all their rhetoric.

Understandable...but are the Europeans willing to risk the side-effects of the right wings...given that they have history of going too far getting involved in conflicts they loose and in the process send the entire continent back a couple of centuries. Do you see any ultra-right wing party gaining any considerable power in Europe anytime soon?
Another note...the French Council of State just suspended the ban on that idiotic garment...this seems in contradiction of what Europeans members were posting here earlier about this some how being consistent with French ideals.

The only political system that "works" includes: clear separation between religion and the government, anti-religious discrimination laws with teeth that are enforced, and anti-violence laws that take precedence over civil liberties.

I agree... there is no place for the quran in any European country that wishes to ban it as goes against their culture!

Europe has every right through the democratic process to close all mosques, ban the quran, and ban the hijabi.

The Two nation theory says nothing about non-Muslims.....it says Indian Hindus and Muslims are two nations. Nowhere in its proposition does it say it applies anywhere outside of the Indian subcontinent...and nowhere does it say anything about religions other than Hinduism and Islam.

That is a very anti-American statement to make....The constitution does not guarantee any form of personal safety from violence at all...it guarantees privacy and a right to bear arms and a right to self-defence.

Even if the court told so,the mayor of Villeneuve-Loubet and from other municipalities said they won't suspend the decrees. + An anti-burkini law will be debated and there will be a vote in the coming session at the parliament.

Sorry for my ignorance about the French system....but the Council of State is a supreme court right? Your parliament can overrule the supreme court?(I am used to the US system...here the Supreme court is SUPREME)

Banning Burkha is one thing as people have the right to see who is who in the public domain, but now banning burkhinis and mosques and Koran is going way too far.
