Two Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16 fighter jets have intercepted two Russian long-range Bear bombers, also known as Tupolev Tu-95MS, across the North Sea, according to the Dutch Defence Ministry.

After being intercepted, the Russian bombers turned toward the west in the direction of UK airspace.

The Defence Ministry said, "The quick reaction alert of the UK Royal Air Force took over the escort [once the Russians left Dutch airspace]."

Intercepting incidents involving Russian planes have increased in the past few years with the latest that took place in late January and early March this year.

Two armed F-16s from the Dutch Air Force are always on permanent standby to intercept unidentified aircraft.

The Volkel and Leeuwarden airbases take charge of the quick reaction alert unit.

No the usual bombing run ... from Russia to the US east cost..... On their way they are intercepted by every force that can manage to scramble a jet. Nato had removed fighters from Iceland. Since the Russians resumed the Patrols ..... fighters are temporarily placed in Iceland (Russian and NATO air operations continue if the Local volcanoes allow)

well how could all the countries between them miss these bombers?

They fly over the sea.... The fighter merely escort them and both sides try not to provoke each other.... just take pics of each other.

Reminds of the Cold war era.

The planned flight of Russian strategic aviation. Russia warns in advance of such flights. To prevent panic among our neighbors. Otherwise, start jumping out of skyscraper windows, shouting, "Russian go."
The funny thing is that NATO planes sometimes manage to "sleep away" the appearance of Russian aviation. In actual combat conditions, the TU-95 can destroy their opponents (directly on the ground without going into a zone defense).

there have been numerous incidents of a Tu-95 Bear being intercepted. It is comparable to the American B-52

Sometimes yes sometimes no.
Tu-95RTS code (version reconnaissance and target acquisition) took control of the aircraft carrier compounds USA (flying at low altitude over a careless opponent). In the U.S., the real scandal broke. To reassure the public, Americans, using every opportunity, tried to take pictures and video of Tu-95, accompanied by his fighters. There was a lot of similar pictures (creating the myth of absolute domination USAF).
Forgetting about the two facts.
1. The Russian side had a lot of these photo and movie materials. When the U.S. aircraft carriers were removed from the minimum distance (not hard to imagine what would happen to the U.S. ships in a real combat situation).
2. Tu-95 is not necessary to go into a zone defense aircraft carrier compounds. These are missile carriers (the Tu-95 is very long, "hands").

Physically large bombers, very out of date, dinasaurs, pointless in today's modern warfare world.

You are right, why do we need aircraft with a range of more than 10 000 km. Carrier modern missiles with a range of 3,000 km.
The maximum speed over 850 km / hour.
I suggest U.S. to abandon its cruisers and destroyers. The speed they have is clearly less than that of the Tu-95. On the ground also can not jump. Defend against Russian missiles, they can not. I propose to cut immediately.
This talk about?
Tu-95 exists in various versions.
Serves as:
Intelligence.
ASW.
Targeting.
Carrier rockets.
Range of some of its missiles exceed range fighter (if there are kamikaze pilots). Combat radius of 800-1,500 km of modern fighters. (At best).
The main weapon of the Tu-95 is a rocket. This is not a B-52 carpet bombing producing (if you imagine this picture).

None of the Russian prop driven bomber uses/purposes exist in the modern world. Russia has satellites, is no longer our total advesary and we even share space missions with joint US/Russian astronaut crews.

Russia has huge infrastructure needs, not the least of which is better public housing, better hospials, more modern medical colleges.

There should be multiple railroad lines from Russia thru Siberia to the Pacific coast of Russia, Vladavostoc and other cities on Asian end of Russia.

There are already a goodly number of US-Russian student exchanges, but more would be healthy, both with the US and the res tof the educated world, Europe, Japan, Australia, etc.

I think the necessity for infrastructure and the requirement of a strategic bomber are two entirely different things and cannot be compared with each other. One can never say,"Okay we have developed the infrastructure to its 'limits' and now we should concentrate on developing bombers".

They just have different purposes.
