Drones in slumber after Davis incident

looks to me america wants to get davis out of jails , so in order to cool down PAKISTANIES it is giving some rest to her drones.

The Taliban are still trying to do that - what has pushed them back are Pakistani military operations, not a few dozen drone attacks on a couple of agencies in FATA. Your argument is invalid and incorrect.

It is not true - the people being allegedly shot were suspected militants, not 'innocent civilians' (there is no evidence to back your claim on 'innocent civilians'), and the Army investigation into the incident to determine the details is continuing.

And one or two incidents, criticized by the Army, do not translate into 'wanton disregard for civilian life'.

As I said I was inarticulately trying to say the very same thing you are saying. that prior to drone attacks the Taliban were trying to take as much up land and came close to the capital and that Pakistani army was sufficient enough to handle them. again- we are on the same page. I apologize for being inarticulate.

I would however respectfully disagree to one or two incidents claim. the armies in this subcontinent ( all) sadly don't have that discipline . regardless lining up even militants and shooting them in cold blood, blind folded and hands tied is a crime in civilized armies, would you agree?

In terms of those attacked by the drones, does it matter if Pakistan or the U.S. operates them? All they know is a hellfire missile comes in supersonic and blows them up.

Morally and ethically, it is a difficult issue... is it OK for innocents to be killed so long as they are killed by fellow Pakistanis? Does that make it OK? Or is the claim being made that fewer innocents would die if Pakistan took over the operation completely?

The unassailable truth is this: It is impossible to wage a war and spare every innocent. It cannot be done. All that CAN be done is to minimize them.

I think you misunderstand me- I'm all for stopping all aid and all drone attacks in Pakistan and leaving pakistan alone. You would not find a greater champion for that stance than me !

The way i see this is that the US drones are going in where the Pakistani Army can not or shall not go. That is, against the Afghan Taliban ( Haqqani group). Pakistani patronage to this group of Taliban is what is hurting the NATO and its war on terror really bad. Now, the avowed reasoning given for this war on terror was that if these people were not sorted out in their place of origin, it would be immensely difficult to eliminately them on mainland USA or Europe. Looking at it from that point of view, it would seem very unseemly that the US and the NATO would wish to jeopardize the war on terror for one man of tittle significance by stopping strikes on confirmed targets.......unless there is some thing basically wrong with this reasoning and this guy is not really what he seems and, here is the kicker, the Pakistanis know it.

When a recent TTP head was droned attacked , civilians died in that attack too- but Pakistanis here rejoiced that such an evil terrorist was killed

One drones are mostly carried out in NW cause they hurt allies in Afghanistan, very few have been in SW. TTP head was involved in killing of BB and I think he was destined to be eliminated, if few conspiracy theories are correct

Ah! what your are touching on is the aftermath - BUT that does not play into anyone's equation here.

What you have here is a complete focus on stopping all American involvement- not a single post or comment from anyone to date on what happens as the aftermath. Everyone is focused on Pakistan's economy and how it can handle zero US aid. An outlook which is fine by me ( the US taxpayer). Just like I hear this, "cut off their supply lines!" talk. These people forget there are 3 other " STAN's" that border Afghanistan.

what is amiss in the thinking is :

  • what happens when the next Faisal is successful in the US, as is shown to have trained in Pakistan?
  • What happens when pakistan ignores terror bases from where the US is attacked and now they have no reason to show restrain?
  • Do you think they will just go away and let those attacks continue?

There are some serious ramifications that smarter people in foreign service think about - but not the general public. The general public is all about rabble rousing, chest thumping and yelling ( insert whatever god name here) will save us and see us victorious!

I just don't see any reason to waste US tax payer monies on a limited engagement in pakistan. and am ecstatic that Pakistanis don't want such aid or drones there anymore.

From this incident it should be clear to every one that blood of tribals is much cheaper than lahoris.
