The DRDO is likely to defer proposed trial of an advanced version of cannon launched laser-guided missile (CLGM) which was to be tested from a defence base off Odisha coast on Wednesday.The missile was to be test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea on Wednesday, but it now seems unlikely due to inclement weather. Preparation for the mission has been completed and a special launcher set up at the launching complex here for the scheduled test.

A defence official, however, said if everything goes as per the programme and weather remains favourable, the missile will be test-fired on Wednesday.

“Heavy rain lashed the area on Tuesday. We may defer if such weather prevails on Wednesday. We will carry out the test during low tide,” he said.

The missile has been developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment at Bangalore and is a new generation anti-tank missile. It can neutralise any target in three to five km range. It is an all terrain missile that can be used by the Army, Navy and Air Force. The missile will be equipped with Arjun MK-2 and MK-1 tanks. The missile can also target armoured targets and helicopters at extended ranges.

Why do they need to test fire it at Chandipur? Why not somewhere in Rajasthan?

So this is an advance version of CLGM.

Bets of luck. 5 KM range is very good. It will literally chase enemy Tanks and kill it. A nightmare for enemy.

Bcoz we have a proper missile test facility at Chandipur with all the radars n sensors to monitor the missile's performance.

Generally, user trial r conducted in Rajasthan to check the missiles performance in hot weather conditions but initial developmental trails r mostly conducted at Chandipur.

It is an anti-tank missile, not an ABM. I do hope that was a typo although I'm prepared to believe, given all the hype over the proposed Indian missile-defense shield, that most Indians think all their missiles are anti-missile missiles.

Generally, user trial r conducted in Rajasthan to check the missiles performance in hot weather conditions but initial developmental trails r mostly conducted at Chandipur.

But that works better for ballistic missile tests, no? As this one won't gain enough altitude for radars to monitor.
Maybe the facility is better suited for the test in other ways.

Although CLG is still in development phase but most of the specs were out during last trials, so how does it fare against AT-11 Sniper considering Indo-Pak scenario?

I'm sorry I do not know much about these anti-tank missiles. @Dazzler , @Oscar could you please answer this query?

Edited: Yes Pakistan uses 9M119 Refleks ATGM (AT-11 Sniper) for AKs.

It must have been a typo or he understood it differently .

But I don't think the ABM shield is a hype . If it was so , pakistani officials would not have asked Indian officials not to deploy them in joint meetings .

First understand the difference between Nag n Javelin, both r 3rd Gen ATGMs but Nag is Vehicle Mounted(Heavy missile) with 4km range while Javelin is a Man Portable missile(light weighted) with 2.5km range. Both r Fire n Forget missiles.

while Cannon-launched Laser Guided Missile (CLGM) is designed to launched from Tanks, Tripods, ICV, etc. with a range of 5km, its seeker is laser based n hence not a Fire n Forget missile. Though it is not as advanced as Nag or Javelin but it will be a hell lot cheaper to produce.

ATGMS:

AT-11 Sniper (Reflex) bought from Belarus, same as Invar.

KOMBAT from Ukraine, Kombat is more advanced in trajectory, guidance, and has a bigger warhead. AK, AZ, T-80ud all are compatible to fire both missiles.

COMBAT looks really nice, can u tell us about its penetration specs?

Although KOMBAT is no doubt better platform but CLG is also quite similar, as it too carry a decent size warhead(bigger than LAHAT) n uses MENSINS for Mid course guidance while the terminal guidance is laser but its a bit slower n lighter platform.

Btw whats the armour thickness of AK?
