DRDO explores advanced research for next generation weapons

Hyderabad , Apr 30 The Defence Research and Development Organization is now looking at advanced research for next generation weapons and wars, Chief Controller of R&D (SI) DRDO Dr Prahlada said here today.

"At present the DRDO&aposs concentration is on advance research and development of next generation weapons," Prahlada told PTI on the sidelines a press meeting.

" Since the future wars are likely of low intensity conflicts, wanting to cause maximum damage, DRDO is looking at what technology needs to be required and what has to be done. How the industry, government and academia in the country be involved in this task,"he said.

For the purpose, DRDO has already identified 20 areas for advanced research and has begun developing nano photonics, tera hertz, network centric operations, hypersonic, software radios.

"The research work is expected to complete in three years and each year, three hundred crore rupees will be spent on research,"he said

Robo-cop is what we need ;) for now , i think it will be good if we can finish some current generation - weapons first and then go for net generation - say what ?

.
Naaaaaaa :disagree: i dont think we need Robo-Cops that slow Gizmo "Aaaaa i am Robo-Cop" , just bring the current cops in shape first then can go for future weapons.

An explosive detection kit that can determine threat levels by sniffing out the smallest quantity of explosives, acoustic life detectors to locate people trapped under rubble in the aftermath of disasters and providing potable water by using mobile water purification systems.

These are some of the products being used the security forces that would soon be available for sale in the market.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has forged a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) to market its products and dual-use technological processes.

Launched four months ago, the “Technology Assessment and Commercialisation” initiative was unveiled today in the capital by DRDO and Ficci.

The initiative aims to set up a framework wherein DRDO's non-sensitive products and spin-off technologies in healthcare, disaster management, and computing and simulation can be introduced into the market.

The private sector in India has been quite receptive to this idea, with Larsen and Toubro, Alkali Metals Ltd, GTL Ltd, etc having submitted expression of interest to Ficci for technology transfer from the defence R&D leader.

Of the 50 DRDO laboratories, 26 are taking part in this initiative and 200 technologies have been assessed so far for marketing.

The initiative would eventually zero in on 40 of the most marketable products and processes and create business development models to market them, said Len Denton, programme manager of IC2 Institute, University of Texas, Austin. The university is the programme partner to identify and market the products.

M Natarajan, scientific advisor to the Defence Minister, said apart from developing cutting-edge defence technologies, the DRDO would increasingly participate in the market to deliver hi-tech non-military products.

The PPP has taken into account the twin problems of not compromising classified information and marketing DRDO products at the same time, said Dr Prahlada, DRDO's R&D chief controller.

A special purpose vehicle (SPV) has been conceptualised to put 10 products on a fast-track for marketing and sale. In the next 3-5 years, another 200 DRDO products and their spin-off technologies can be marketed, he added.

DRDO products not just for armed forces anymore

Imagine robo cop asking for -PACHAS RUPEEY - on crossing the red light - on mehrauli gurgaon road.

Duhashtmish, Do they call their chacha's and uncles in india as well? when they break traffic rules? :D

Some things never change!!

.
Its a common phenomenon , they always have know people who know people. Right when some cop stop them for a small crime like - not wearing a helmate or crossing a red light. they first say : sorry uncle galti ho gayo !!
second - cop ask them for licence - they get their phone out and call - mere chacha pulliss mein hai hawaldaar .

third : chacha theory doesnt work : they get their license out. and cops ask for Pachass rupey .

and then as ou know : OK TATA BYE BYE . PHIR MILENGE.
---------even though i think delhi police is not corrupt as much other state police are but this stuff does happen every now n then.

The Hindu : National : HAL to flight-test jet trainer

HAL to flight-test jet trainer

Kiran aircraft to be replaced with IJT as stage-2 trainer of IAF

IAF trains pilots using different aircraft

Order for 12 aircraft placed with HAL

KOLLAM: The stage is set for replacing the Kiran aircraft with the Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) as the stage-2 trainer of the Indian Air Force, with the Russian AL-55 I engine being integrated with the airplane designed and developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

Highly placed sources connected with the project told The Hindu that HAL would start flight tests of the IJT with the Russian engine in May. The IAF’s Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment would conduct the tests to evaluate the airplane’s induction into the force. The IAF, having acquired over the years capability in all areas of aircraft design, conceptualised the new stage-2 trainer replacement.
Aircraft certified

The sources said the IAF had already certified the aircraft, yet to be christened, and an order for 12 had been placed with the HAL. More orders would follow as HAL furnished the flight certificate.

The IAF trains pilots in three stages using different aircraft. Stage 1 primary training is on a simple propeller aircraft, now HAL’s HPT-32 aircraft. Stage 2 is undertaken on a basic jet trainer with a higher degree of complexity to enable the trainee to master flying. Stage 3 is conducted on an advanced jet trainer, comprising all phases of combat training.

Kiran was designed and developed by HAL’s research and design centre in the late 1950s and the aircraft first flew in 1964. Between 1967 and 1989, the IAF acquired approximately 250 Kiran aircraft in various marks, becoming the backbone of the stage-2 training fleet. The firsts of these aircraft in the IAF are nearing their total exploitable life of over 6,000 hours. Therefore, there is need to replace them with a contemporary aircraft designed and developed using state-of-the-art technologies comprising future generation avionics and systems for the next three or four decades.

The IJT will have a state-of-the-art cockpit, override and failure simulation from the rear instructor cockpit, a sortie debrief facility, a modern and modular fuel-efficient engine, a light alloy airframe structure with a total life close to 10,000 hours, zero-zero ejection seats, designed to facilitate easy maintenance, and capability to carry 1,000 kg of armament load for training.
:azn:

The sources said HAL had created a record in the design and development of the IJT — the time taken from the drawing board to the first flight was two years.

However, after the initial flight-test phase, there were delays in identifying a state-of-the-art engine to meet the specific requirements of the aircraft.

This was met with the Russian option of the totally new engine AL-55 I specifically designed for the IAF.

so many project at a time. what's going on:undecided:
either all projects are complete which are currently going on and kept as a secret about there success and advertised them as failures:agree:

OR

some highly corrupt racket is going on in DRDO.:agree:

^^^ IJT was better managed and completed in record time. But induction is delayed at least by two yrs..... any way some pictures of this plane...

well DRDO dakash is a very fine example.... Daksh,a remotely operated vehicle for defusing bombs, ,it is fully automated. It climb stairs to reach hazardous materials.Using its robotized arm,it can lift a suspect object and scan it using its portable X-Ray device. If the object is bomb,Daksh can defuse it with its water jet disrupter. The Daksh can be armed with a shotgun, if necessary.

* Fully automated
* Can neutralise NBC weapons
* Has Radio frequency shield to jam remote signals for triggering a blast

Absolutely right , however if you think the fault lies with us only , have you seen those motorists breaking traffic rules now and then especially the two wheelers and underage school children driving vehicles, especially here in haryana however it is same throughout the country, people just dont care about traffic rules.

More scams from the DRDO to loot Indian govt money....India should shut down all DRDO programs except a small no and bring in the pvt industry to make the rest.Govt run institutions will always be crap.
