Sir the programs for towed artillery
1. Dhanush
2. Upgradation of older guns
3. ATAGS
4. M777

Sir all the above are fixed.

Do you mean there is another 155/52 program where they are pitching Elbit Athos?

Yes, it's the towed 155/52 artillery program.

What is the cumulative requirement of army for 155mm towed guns leaving out the ultra light howitzer category ?

So some 3000 guns of foreign origin manufactured in India and other 3000 guns by OFB and DRDO ATAGS project combined ...

Also sir any chance of Bharat 52 finding its way into army ?

I am not sir, sir. :D

I really dont even know where Bharat 52 will fall, honestly. Bharat Forge is actively trying to trial it, and even added autoloader on to it. They're not dumping it, but they've already several artillery programs under their belt, so..... Idk...

Bharat Forge will try to export some of these for sure.

Right now, near future there are a lot of options -

ATAGS 155mm/52cal
Dhanush 155mm/52cal
Bharat Forge 155mm/52cal
Locally built outside 155mm/52cal

It's a bizarre situation that didnt exist 10 years ago even.

There are some inside, non offical, sources that is mentioning Bhim program being revived. Without Denel gun, but with ARDE's.

Take seriously or don't.
But with the K9 deal being finalised what is the point? A duplication of services that doesn't benefit the end user. It's like when HAL only started working on the HTT-40 after the PC-7 Mk.2 was in service.

Towed Guns: ~1600 Guns

>Dhanush 155mm 45 cal and ATAGMS 155mm 52 cal will be the most likely candidate for this category
(other guns on offer were the Bharat 52/ GC45 and the l&t/Nexter trajan

Tracked Self Propelled Gun: 100 Guns
The K9 VAJRA-T 155mm/ 52 Cal was selected

Ultra Light Howitzers: 145 Guns
M-777 by BAE Systems' Global Combat Systems

105 mm Light Gun: ~ 600 Guns
105MM Garuda low recoil gun developed by Bharat Forge has the possibility of replacing or augementing the existing 105/37 mm Light Field Guns.

Wheeled Self Propelled Guns. - 180 Guns

Upgrade Programs

Beas 155mm ~
450 Guns
Bharat Forge/ Elbit system BEAS program upgrades the 130mm M46 to 155mm/45 calibre gun which has been designed and developed by KSSL, This program will cover around 450 unit, half of the fielded M46 Guns.

1600 towed pieces will go to either Trajan or Athos. The rest will be covered by the others.

The single largest artillery acquisition will be of 1,580 pieces of towed 155 mm/52-calibre guns over a period of 12 to 15 years. Of these, 400 guns are to be imported and the remaining 1,180 produced in India with transfer of technology (ToT).

I was actually wrong on the 3000 figure. Seems to be around 1600 for the towed artillery program. 3000+ for the total requirement it seems.

Now that the tender for Self Propelled Howitzer on wheels is cancelled, so we can say they will be filled in using the tracked ones.

And our needs, generous estimate says , upwards of 450 SPHs in the western front itself.

And then surely some ~200 more for up north and north east.

~600-700 platforms are actually needed.

And as said ~200 K9s, rest can be our own gun...

The wheeled MGS requirement isn't cancelled, the requirement for MGS outweighs the tracked SPGs (up to 800 units) and L&T is in pole positon with its CEASAR/AL chassis offer.
