You don't get it. This thing about China "competing" with other nations is probably just a passing phase in Chinese history. The pendulum may soon swing back and Chinese leaders decide they don't have to "compete" with anybody, just go back to their old pattern of dominating the neighbors and ignoring the rest. Even without a war, I suspect China will thus withdraw from the global economy before the end of the 21st century.
I suggest we indulge in plain speak here cos most here cannot comprehend all or read between the lines, India is frankly feeling threatened by China not presently but in the future as u rightly point out. and i am against Indians trumpeting our defense vis a vis China. Including India a lot of China's neighbors probably feel the same. In the present scenario we are ill prepared to take on China. We rely on minimum deterrence and defense tactics that will be enabled if and when China attacks. We have a buffer time right now when China is building itself up to take on the US and probably Russia, and my feeling is we should utilize this buffer to build India's defense capabilities to an extent that will force China to not even think of taking on India. If India can develop to the extent that in the face of an attack we can inflict same amount or more collateral damage then it will make China think as a Pakistani said not 10 times but a 100 times before thinking of an attack on India. Any assurances from China that it doesn't consider India to be worthy of an adversary and has no intentions of attacking it mus t be politely ignored and must be taken with a truck load of salt. We need to implement this immediately for our safety cos present preparedness is not adequate. I say this as an Indian looking out for India's well being.
