Dr. Cohen suggesting such a deal is quite different from the number of Pakistanis who actually believe that such a thing can happen. Most Pakistanis, if they entertain hopes for such a deal are deluding themselves with a complete disconnect of how the world & America sees them & their country .

Precisely - further if you notice, we have not had a single respondent tell us WHY such a deal in Pakistan's interest now. It seems that for some if the Indian have a parachute with a hole in it, then Pakistan must have one too.

I thought those days have already long gone - I thought India and Pakistan have been successfully de-hyphenated - (except when it comes to dangerous nuclear states with a risk of conflict), Pakistan has lately stopped demanding the same treatment forwarded to India in everything.

Quite honestly and if you were to see it realistically Pakistan-India being completely de-hyphenated makes no sense from the American view point. You cannot see just Af-Pak & not factor India into the equation. You can de-hyphenate some matters with India but anything to do with Pakistan's world view is connected in some manner to India. We in India might not like to be lumped with Pakistan but for anyone else who is trying to have a Pakistan policy has to necessarily hyphenate India with Pakistan even if selectively.

Quite correct. Pakistan is simply not in a position to purchase substantial numbers of nuclear plants from western countries using their own money. India will eventually spend huge amounts on nuclear plants for its power needs but Pakistan simply can't. As you said, rationality in thought does not seem much of a strong point with those advocating for such a deal.

The Ind - Pak association comes to matters of probable nuclear conflict, border unrest, and a few outstanding issues - as for everything else (even Afghanistan) there is hardly any equations where India and Pakistan are uttered in the same sentence.

Anyways, the author's suggestion that nuke deal similar to India's be extended to Pakistan will hardly have any takers in Capitol Hill.
